Any Shoegaze fans out there? (or Folk Indie)

Just wondering who here shares some of my loves. Anyone here listen to
    any shoegaze bands?

    Some of my favorites:

    Ride
    Chapterhouse
    My Bloody Valentine
    Lush
Pains of Being Pure at Heart
    Radio Dept.
    Slowdive

    Anyone else?

Also, I've recently learned the majesty of Indie Folk Southern Rock. Haha, long winded, but my favorite genre right now.

    Favorites:

    Band of Horses
    Fleet Foxes
    Bon Iver
My Morning Jacket (this one is debatable to be in this "genre")
    Cass McCombs
    Deer Tick

Band of Horses is incredible. I've also just gotten into Deer Tick who really strike a chord with me.

    OH GOD THAT LAST PUN

Anyone else like this music or music like this? :3

NO. I HATE IT. I HATE IT ALL!!!

If you like shoegazer stuff, check out the compilation called, "Blue Skied an' Clear." It's a double disc label sampler from Morr Music. The first disc is all label artists doing Slowdive covers, and the second is original songs by those artists on the label. It's mostly smooth, lightly beat-driven, slightly glitchy electronic stuff. I'm a fan of most of the bands on there (ISAN, Ms. John Soda, B. Fleischmann, Solvent, Styrofoam, etc).

Also, if you've not heard the band that 3/5 of Slowdive became when they broke up (hence the name), check out Mojave 3. It's really mellow, contemplative, melancholy, slow acoustic folk-ish stuff. And if you like that and have not really heard anything from Mazzy Star other than Fade Into You, check out their other stuff, their third (and final) album in particular. It is extremely underrated.

Only other "modern" shoegazer band I'm really into is this Japanese band called Sugar Plant. It's more dream-pop than shoegaze, but close enough. It's pretty gorgeous.

And if you've not heard the whole Spacemen 3/Spiritualized/E.A.R./Spectrum/Sonic Boom/etc group of bands, they are worth a listen as well.

Oh, last one. A personal favorite of mine is Flying Saucer Attack. They remind me a lot of MBV, but are in reality completely different. Buried vocals and slow, melodic folksy songs drenched in massive amounts of feedbacked, reverbed, and delayed guitar noise. It's actually the antithesis of MBV. Where Kevin Shields was a perfectionist, and almost bankrupted Creation Records in the process of recording Loveless, Dave Pearce from FSA espouses a low-fi aesthetic, and frequently records (recorded) on a 4 track. Best representative song from them is called Soaring High.

Before he got the banhammer dropped on him Eso showed me this group. They're okay, I guess.

As far as Indie folk, I really really like Bon Iver, and Band of Horses is pretty good, too. I can listen to "The First Song" over and over.

when it comes to Indie Folk, Okkervil River is all I need. Everyone else just falls short in my book. Specifically their album Black Sheep Boy.

Also Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over The Sea, which is just about one of the best albums ever.

I got into Swervedriver a while back, and I have a couple My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain albums that I enjoy on occasion.

Indie folk is so vague I don't even know where to start. Okkervil River is great obviously... and Andrew Bird, I guess? Does Beirut count? How about The Dodos?

              It's all about mainstream music.

Yeah, I'd say Beirut and the Dodos are Indie Folk, but I was focusing more on the country/southern rock style.

I have to check out these new reccomended bands. Just as soon as I can!

                  +1

Usually though I'm a much bigger fan of old school Greenwich Village folk than indie-folk. Phil Ochs is the greatest.

That is unfortunate. Not that I dislike Radiohead, but sometimes it is nice to leave your comfort zone.

                      Shoegaze is very nice.

If you get Okkervil River's Black Sheep Boy, make sure you get the Black Sheep Boy Appendix as well for the complete experience.
