Coined phrases you don't quite get...

This is about phrases, metaphors, etc. you don't quite understand.

Mine right now is "Cutting your nose off to spite your face." I don't get that one or how it even originated. I'm sure one of you guys could explain that one if you've heard it.

When you're mad at someone, sometimes you do things to hurt them which also hurt you.

For example, I once knew of a couple that lived together and were in a huge fight. The girl got a baseball bat and smashed the TV. Obviously, she did it to **** off her boyfriend--now he didn't have a TV--but it was her TV, too, and now she didn't have a TV either.

So, metaphorically speaking, if you were mad at your face, you might cut your nose off to get back it. You'd be hurting yourself though--its your nose after all.

I've never heard of that phrase before, but now that it has been so eloquently explained, I love it!

Two in the hand is worth one in the bush. or something like that. What the heck does it mean!?
Find a dog, honk it's nose. If you are bothered by this sentence. I guess you're just not cool enough for the noses.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. If you've already got a bird in your hand don't let it go to try to get the two that are still in the bushes because you might not catch them and then you'll have nothing. Don't pass up a sure thing for a better option that might not come through.

I like that one and I've only heard it once or twice.

"I could care less" and "That may or may not be" don't make any sense to me. I also don't understand when somebody says "X predicts Y might Z." Why would you predict something might happen?

It's supposed to be "couldn't care less" the other one is just incorrect. And "may or may not be" makes perfect sense. It means it's uncertain.

I never heard of the last one.

When somebody says "He predicts the price of silver might double in two years," or something of the like, it makes no sense. Because you're predicting something could happen, when you mean to say "It will double in two years." "May or may not be" doesn't make sense to me because you're just stating the blatantly obvious; anything has the possibility of existing or being nonexistent.

"May or may not be" may or may not have existing sense. Did I just blow your mind?

I think it is annoying when people say "me either"

the **** would "me either" mean

                          "me neither" makes sense

                          stop saying "me either"

When someone says "me either", I treat it was "me as well."

                              Makes sense to me.
