These top 10 lists of the decade are hard to come up with, but at the same time have too little content other than just listing out names. Let's narrow it down and improve. Our #1's of the past decade, and why (runner ups and honorable mentions allowed).
Feel free to add or ignore categories.
My List:
#1 Video Game: RPG Maker I
RPG Maker I gets the nod for the game that most affected my life in the past decade. It allowed me to achieve a longstanding dream of mine, to create and release a game, it brought me to a community of great people that has been some part of my life for also nearly a decade, it helped me choose my current career as Software Engineer, and winning the RPG Maker EGM contest is still one of the best and defining moments of my life. No other game comes close...
Runner Up: World of Warcraft
...except World of Warcraft, which I spent more time, money, and life on than any other game this decade. And, although I spent probably 2.5 years playing, the first couple months was by far the best...Everything was new and impressive, and just exploring brought joy and excitement. Eventually that joy was lost in tedious grinding and guild drama and all the other negatives that come with MMORPGs. But, through WoW I met some lasting friends and had some of the best gaming moments.
#1 Movie: Lost in Translation
This one is easy for me too. Lost in Translation is a very subtle movie, one that I was in a time in my life where I really closely connected with it. I can see why it is hit or miss with people, but for me it was a beautiful movie that is very personal...and actually difficult to explain why I like it so much.
#1 TV Series: The Wire
The Wire raised my personal tevelsion "bar". It felt very authentic, I felt like I learned something after watching it. It has exceptional writing, deep characters, a compelling, power, addictive story. Yet, for all my praise, it's frusturatingly difficult for me to convince people to watch it, even though everyone who does holds it in high regard. Watch it! It's superb.
Runner Up: Arrested Development
To put a comedy in a list of things that affected me personally the most is really a testament to how good Arrested Development is, though I suppose humor is sometimes underrated. I've seen the series probably 5 or 6 times and each time I catch on to a bunch of new things. In fact, I think i'll start watching again after finishing this list...
Honorable Mention(s): Freaks and Geeks, Lost
#1 Sports Team: 2001 Mariners
It's very unfortunate that this team didn't go all the way because they were so good. I don't think anyone else at the pavilion likes baseball, but the 2001 Mariners were a great team to watch. The moment I particularly remember was when the manager switched in a reserve (Charles Gibson) in center field for the bottom of the ninth, and he responded by throwing a ridiculous bullet from center field to throw out the minnesota guy at home and preserve the 2-1 win.
#1 Funny Youtube Video: GI Joe Porkchop Sandwiches (language warning)
This is still funny to me 4 years later, it has to get the nod.
