To piggyback on Valk's similar thread in the VG forum, what are your top ten favorite films from the decade 2000-2009?
In no particular order:
The Machinist
Requiem for a Dream
Funny Games
Memento (I'd have to see The Prestige a few more times before it dethrones Memento)
There Will Be Blood
Punch-Drunk Love (yeah, two Paul Thomas Anderson films in my top ten...sue me)
A Scanner Darkly (it was either this or Before Sunset for the requisite Linklater film, and the latter was a HUGE letdown after the brilliance of Before Sunrise. Waking Life ALMOST made the cut for a Linklater film, as did Tape.)
Lilya 4-ever (I've only ever seen this film once, and I'm not sure I want to watch it again. On the strength of that one viewing, it's in my top ten)
Series 7: The Contenders
Traffic
If I had allotted myself a top fifteen, these would be the next five:
Auto Focus
Panic Room
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Monster
Control
Went through thiswikipedia page of films released in the 2000s, and I'm telling you, it was kinda slim pickings.
I STILL think 1999 was one of the best years for film in the past two decades, and I'm thinking no other single year will ever top that one in the near future. If that year was included, 4 or 5 from my list would be from that year alone. But alas, 2000 til present.
