My chickens...

Last sunday, I went out to feed my chickens....I found them all dead.

They were basically my pets and they all...all....

We think it might be the work of a fox, but we also suspect one of our neighbor's dogs, who was missing until returning to it's owner one hour later after my chickens were found dead....

I actually raise chickens too so I share your sentiments.

If you don't have a tree for them to roost in at night, I strongly suggest you get your next batch some sort of coop.

And yeah, your chickens were probably gotten by a fox or raccoon. I don't know about a dog though because most dogs won't kill a whole bunch of chickens at once, but raccoons and foxes will in one night.

So just sayin' it could be worse.

What kind of chickens did you have?

Over at my parents place my moms got about 40 chickens of all different kinds and she plans on getting into breeding and selling a few fancy varietys next year.

I understand how you feel.

I had all three of my chickens killed/decapitated by a dog.

We then got more chickens. About 24 more.

There were more deaths by neighbor dogs. One mauling, which resulted in a visit to a bird vet and a large bill.

Chickens make great pets. They can be very pretty, and very nice. They just to happen to give you a lot of free eggs every day. We had too many roosters at one point, and they kept getting into fights, so my aunt had them butchered. I didn't eat a bite, and felt bad about the whole situation. Every chicken has it's own special character.

Though I'll eat the hell of out chicken's I've developed no friendship to.

Two Phoenix Chickens, two Anacuras, one Rock Hen, and four Isa Browns.

Were these pets? Or...?

True...And I'm sorry about your loss...

I want to get more chickens in the spring...but I don't know if my mom and I can take losing another flock. (This is our second lost flock.)

Chickens are fun to watch, and they do each have their own little personality once they used to being around you, or if you raised them from little babies or eggs.
