I just bought a Sony Bravia 32" lcd TV today, but the picture seems really pixely. Does it just need time to break in or am I gonna have to return it? Honestly I'm pretty upset right now. Any advice would be great because I don't really know too much about TVs.

Re: TV question
If you're hooking up your PS3 with composite it's not gonna look great. I don't think it'll really look grainy, but I don't have your TV and don't know for sure.
It took me a good couple hours of tinkering around with the settings, brightness, contrast, all that, until I got a good idea of what my TV could look like depending on what I put on it. And my TV has a Game Mode setting that really works wonders for color contrasts and lightness of textures. You should have Brightness, Contrast, possibly Sharpness and Backlight, and a slew of other advanced controls. Basically just toy around with them for a bit until you figure out how to make it look nice, or you can't and return it in a huff. You should definitely invest in an HDMi cable, though, for proper testing, before you run off and return it all. =P
Based on the specs of your TV, which are comparable to mine, you should be able to get some settings that look good.Last edited by Big Rick Cook; 11-27-2009, 01:29 PM."Mindless killing doesn't do a lot for me anymore." - Sampson

Re: TV question
I haven't adjusted anything in my PS3. I'm not really sure how to do that. Right now most of it is set automatic. Any suggestions on what to put it too?Originally posted by Goufunaki View PostIf you already set up the ps3 to output to 720/1080, then it just depends on the game itself. Most of what I have only support 720, so that looks more grainy compared to other games that actually support 1080 (or even the XMB and bluray movies).
I'm just going to tinker with it and I'll let you know if I figure it out. Thanks for replaying so fast guys.

Re: TV question
Under your PS3's Setting tab, find Display Settings, then Video Output Settings.
Whatever kind of cable you're using is what you have to pick for the time being, and then you can tell it to automatically detect its highest resolution rating. Until you put on a better cable, though, it's not gonna matter too much. Once you have an HDMI cable hooked up, you'll probably get a max Resolution of 1080i, with 480p and 720p included in that list. This is the max your TV is gonna be able to do and that's what you want it to say. It might just say 720p, dunno about other TVs and 1080i. But once you have that cable with those settings and your 720p LCD, you should be able to start tinkering around with all your TV's video settings to figure out if it's gonna work out for you.
Edit: The biggest thing to realize is that it is more advanced technology than standard definition TVs, and you have to actually learn a little about them if you want to utilize the TV to its utmost. Just turning on an HDTV and hooking things up isn't the end of the line, because there's a lot of tweaking to be done to the settings to get things looking right for your own personal space.Last edited by Big Rick Cook; 11-27-2009, 02:06 PM."Mindless killing doesn't do a lot for me anymore." - Sampson

Re: TV question
Yes. You need an HDMI cable to make your PS3 look fly, homie. Target was selling them for $10 today (they might be still), but Amazon has a lot of HDMI cables around that price. They're all the same as long as their verison 1.3.Originally posted by Lausen View PostThink it could be because I don't have an hdmi cord for it?

Re: TV question
Alright, I'm pretty sure I just jumped the gun. The very fist thing I did out of the box was put in Dragon Age. The opening cutscene looked good, but once I started to play it was a bit pixely. Then I threw in Oblivion and the pixels would lag really bad if I moved the camera too quick or ran too fast. It did the same thing with RE5. Now that it's been on for a couple hours I tried again and it seems to be a LOT better.
I'm gonna pick up an HDMI cable tomorrow. I'm pretty sure it will look great with that. Just need some time to harm up. Thanks for the help.

Re: TV question
If you find that HDMI cables are like $35.99 everywhere, don't buy one at a store -- Buy an HDMI cable online from newegg or monoprice for like $5. Best buy/Fry's/etc. will generally rip you off for HDMI cables. There's not much difference between the low end and "high end" cables.XBox Live: Alzar2k

Re: TV question
That's a Black Friday-only model. Sony is pretty subpar this year anyway compared to Samsung, and the holiday/Black Friday only TV models are usually a step or two down from those any manufacturer makes/retailer sells the rest of the year. There a good reason these TVs are the price they are...the quality is always pretty lacking.
Not saying it should look pixelly, but any standard def connection/standard def device connected to it is always gonna look pretty not so good. Part of what you are paying for in the more expensive TVs is the TV's capability to make standard def signals looks semi-tolerable instead of looking like straight-up ass.
Also, if you are able to find this one for the same price range (it's the same price as the Sony on Wal-Mart's site, but they are out of it on the online site), it's probably gonna be a much better TV. Granted, comparing contrast across manufacturer is like comparing apples and oranges, but still, 8,000:1 on the Sony vs 30,000:1 on the Samsung...more than likely an 8 ms response time (Sony does not publish these numbers, but it's probably 8 ms) vs the 6 ms on the Sammy, the swivel base on the Samsung...plus, it's a year-round TV (meaning, it's good) as opposed to a holiday special.
Not to shoot down your purchase, Lausen, but if you're not happy with it, and can find the Samsung for the same price range, I'd return it and get the superior TV. It's the one Valk has (albeit in a different size)...but still not understanding this strange noise he heard his TV make.Last edited by Perversion; 11-27-2009, 07:09 PM.

If you thought your games looked pretty now, you'll soil yourself when you see PS3/360 games in HD.Originally posted by Vonwert View PostI am going to get a Sony 32' HD tv this Christmas. It will be my first HD tv. So far I have only been playing on crappy standard def tv.
