    My RPGM3 Project: Lironus Legacy

After putting down RPG Maker 3 for almost 2 years, I come back with a brand new project whose story takes place in the timeline of a series of novels I plan to write. It's set in the year 1340, ten years after the hero Leonis and his band defeated the evil dragon prince Dralkor and three years after the war against the lich emperor Thanatos. Leonis has since been crowned king of the land of Lironus. This story follows the tale of a warrior named Midas Spencer, who claims to be the champion of the previous fighting tournament. He meets up with an elf named Gwynn, who seeks to avenge the slaying of her kin, a dwarven knight named Galrick, and Solaryn, the most powerful wizard since Merlin.

I will be chronicling my progress here. So far the usage rate is 17.9%, with three towns and four dungeons created.

There's nothing here that really stands out to me. Posting a bare-bones plot description and character starting stats is not gonna get people interested in your game. If you want feedback, give us more to go on. If your strength is your story, let us know more about it. If your strength is your characters, let us know some backstory. If you have interesting game mechanics that tweak the default battle system, let us know. As is, it seems as if you are putting a bunch of work into this, but with your descriptions, you're not gonna grab people. Remember, a lot of the users here have read similar descriptions for years, so unless you can add something to this thread that'll make people say, "Wow! I can't wait for this game to be released!", I think you're not gonna get a huge response to this.

Take it from me...a little self-promotion goes a LONG way.

Yeah, Perversion just gave you some good advice. I've been wanting to respond to this for a while, and just really didn't have much to say, quite honestly. No one cares what the characters' starting stats are--yet. Once you hook us with something that really stands out, whether it's story, gameplay, or artistry, then the more specific details like character stats, portraits, and skills will become more interesting, because it will give a better idea of how the game will actually play.

The story seems cliche, which isn't the worst thing in the world because you at least seem to be a decent writer. Solaryn is the only character that stands out to me as interesting at all (I have a feeling I'll like Gwynn if I play your game, though), from what you've written here. Mostly, I just want to know more about what my experience will be like when I play your game. The fact that you asked a question about De-Leveling in the Workshop makes me think you've got some cool stuff at play here, but you don't really say a lot here.

At first glance this game is not something I'd brave the "standard" gameplay of RPG Maker 3 to play, but maybe that's because you just haven't told me enough of the good stuff, and of course this is no more than my personal opinion.

Re: My RPGM3 Project: Lironus Legacy

Well, all right, so the storyline is set in a continuity of novels that focus around Solaryn's apprentice, Rollard. Before his story begins, there is the tale of an adventurer named Leonis, who, in the year 1330, discovers the ambitions of Dralkor, a man who is the son of Bahamut the Dragon King and a human woman, to usurp his father's throne and unite all dragonkind to exterminate humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, and gnomes from the face of the earth, so that dragons can reign supreme. The Dragon Prince Dralkor uses a human ally named Xervus to build an army of golems, powered by highly-potent shards of a massive meteor that levelled the province of Darcron a decade ago, to help his cause. Dralkor eventually succeeds in killing his own father and claiming the dominion of dragonkind for himself. He has Xervus build him Cor Draconis, an enormous flying palace perpetually surrounded by stormclouds, for the new Dragon King to live in. Leonis and his companions are not content to sit back and let Dralkor do as he pleases, what with threatening mass genocide. They storm the palace with a fleet of dwarven airships, and Leonis' group infiltrates Dralkor's inner sanctum to confront the Dragon Prince himself. A battle of epic proportions ensues, with Dralkor shedding his human side to become an almighty archdragon, and Leonis and company eventually emerge victorious, with the defeated Dralkor going down with Cor Draconis as it crashes into the sea. Leonis is hailed as the hero of Lironus, and is celebrated as a noble champion for years to come.

Seven years later, another threat becomes apparent to the kingdom of Lironus: The hellish army of the wicked emperor Thanatos. They have already conquered at least a dozen other countries by the time they threaten Lironus. When Solaryn's tower is under siege by Thanatos' imperial army in the year 1337, Leonis and his allies are there to fight back. Despite their efforts, one of Thanatos' generals, a warlock named Sammael, storms into the tower with the intent of killing Solaryn. He meets Rollard first, and tries to kill him, but the apprentice leads him into the library of magic tomes and unwittingly unleashes the forbidden spell of Chronos, opening a time vortex that sends him, Sammael, and the entire library hurling through the time continuum.

Rollard finds himself in the year 2037, 700 years in the future. In this new time with a technology level compared to our world's, magic has been disregarded as myth, and no more people believe in it than the people in our world believe in magic. He befriends a young man studying to be an engineer named Jack Craft, the first of many allies he finds in the city of San Lironus, the largest megalopolis in the world, with a population of approximately 50 million. In his quest to recover the spell tomes that have been scattered throughout the city, Rollard and Jack team up with a nurse named Clara, a feared gang leader named Mak, the female fire chief Corona, a professional gambler who goes by the nickname "Lucky", war veteran Lt. Ballisto, Darcy, a mysterious girl with psychic powers, and a special government agent known only by the alias "Viper". They discover that Sammael has appeared in this time period as well, and he has become the advisor to the mayor of San Lironus, and is manipulating him into doing his bidding. When Sammael becomes aware of Rollard's existence here, he manipulates the authorities into cracking down on his crew. Eventually Jack and company decide to confront the mayor himself in his office, who has now become little more than a puppet whose strings are pulled by the warlock. They are forced to kill the crazed mayor, and Sammael uses this as more propaganda to hunt down Rollard's crew. They find that Sammael has led a large excavation team into a series of tunnels beneath the city, and follow him there to find that they have discovered a Dreadnaut, a hidden superweapon left behind by Emperor Thanatos all those centuries ago, and powerful enough to level all of San Lironus. Sammael activates the Dreadnaut, and it proceeds to demolish the city it was buried under until Rollard and company can muster enough power to bring it down.

Re: My RPGM3 Project: Lironus Legacy

After defeating the Dreadnaut, Rollard finds that Sammael has fled back to the year 1337 to finish the war, so the apprentice, having finally recovered the tome of Chronos, returns to his own time as well, leaving behind the friends he made in his future. Back at the siege of Solaryn's tower, Rollard uses his newfound combat experience to support Leonis' side, and they manage to repel Sammael's forces. Rollard joins the champion's forces, and they head out to liberate the rest of Lironus from the Thanatosian armies. They meet new allies to help their cause, including but not limited to a drow druid named Zayle and an elven alchemist named Dain. Rollard is shocked to find that Black Wolf, a mysterious man whom he met 700 years in the future, is living in this time as well. It turns out that he is an immortal named Kurokami, and that he and the sun goddess Amaterasu were once lovers. However, Kurokami is cursed with famine, meaning that his very existence causes the land around him to slowly deteriorate into uninhabitable wastes. When he and Amaterasu were an item, they spent so much time together in the goddess' palace that they did not realize until it was too late that Kurokami caused Amaterasu's earthly kingdom to transform from a lush green paradise to a dark, barren wasteland, killing all of the kingdom's inhabitants in the ensuing famine. Unable to forgive himself, Kurokami left the sun goddess and has lived as a wanderer ever since, not staying in one place too long so that it won't suffer the same fate as Amaterasu's kingdom. The barren wastes that used to be the sun goddess' kingdom later became the capital of the Thanatos Empire, and so Thanatos began his global conquest from there. Leonis and his group decided to head to the heart of the Thanatos Empire to put a stop to their wicked conquest. After a long journey, they finally arrived at the imperial palace and fought and killed Emperor Thanatos himself, but only then did they find out that the wicked ruler had made plans to resurrect himself as a lich. With this new form he gained unparalleled power, and quickly defeated his own killers. Leonis' group was forced to retreat and seek reinforcements. They ended up journeying to the top of a celestial mountain to the new residence of the sun goddess, where Kurokami had no choice but to reconcile with his former lover before Amaterasu blessed the champions with her power, giving Leonis the strength to conquer the unconquerable. With their new strength, they defeated Sammael again to liberate the last of Lironus, and through a long and truly epic battle did they finally destroy Thanatos the Lich Emperor once and for all.

But it did not end there. At least not for Rollard. Sammael was still alive, and he cast the apprentice into the time vortex with the intent of stranding him there before he proceeded to start travelling through space and time himself, wreaking havoc as the final defeat of his master drove him to insanity. Rollard began hopping back and forth throughout various eras in time, slowly recovering every last spell tome that he lost in the initial catastrophe. He gathered friends from various points in time as well, including his old friend Jack Craft, to help fight against Sammael's efforts to unravel the very fabric of time. Rollard discovered that the Dreadnaut he battled in the year 2037 was just one of 10,000 Dreadnauts hidden throughout the world, and that all of them were created for the purpose of establishing Thanatos' global empire. Rollard and his friends eventually destroyed the remaining 9999 Dreadnauts and finally got to tracking down Sammael. They confronted him on the asteroid called Wormwood in the year 2666 and battled him one last time. Just as he was defeated, the warlock merged his powers with the Chronos Tome, and as a result he became the very essence of time itself. Sammael went mad with the acquisition of such limitless power, and Rollard and his allies were overwhelmed. In a desperate cry for help, Rollard called out to everyone he had ever known, everyone he had ever helped, everyone that ever helped him, past, present, and future, to give his group strength. The prayers of everyone throughout the time continuum reached them, and they were manifested as a supernatural power so great it tore Sammael out of the essence of time, severing his bond with it once and for all.

This brings us back to the year 1340, three years after the war against Thanatos. Leonis was crowned the new King of Lironus, and a new era would begin. A young fighter named Barus Brownstone, training to participate in the annual fighting tournament in Lironus, met Lance, one of Leonis' knights, in the capital city of Centallion, and found that the king did not want to start this year's tournament without Rollard at the opening ceremony. They set off for Solaryn's tower to find him. Along the way, they met a mysterious swordsman, and a girl named Genna, who turned out to be the lost daughter of Kurokami and Amaterasu. A special spell had sealed the entrance to Solaryn's tower, and the only method of breaking the spell was known by elves. They headed to the only known elf reservation in Lironus, a city in a giant tree, where they promptly came under attack by unwelcoming elves. They were forced to fight there way to the top of the tree and had to kill the elven High Priest before Genna learned the spell that could open the way to Solaryn's tower. They recruited Rollard, who was still chasing Sammael around at this point in time, and at his insistence they investigated Fort Argus, which turned out to be inhabited by the remains of Thanatos' army, and were performing a wicked ritual to resurrect Thanatos a second time. Behind this plot was the mysterious swordsman they met before, and another general. They defeated the resurrected Thanatos, and Barus went on to win the tournament. He changed his name to Midas Spencer to avoid conflict with the elves.

Way to go Cysma This is sounding pretty interesting, I really like the buried superweapons underneath the city. It's also great that you provide some explanation for why the obligatory "wanderer" is like he is, since most games just say "Oh, he's an introvert."

Seems like a very high-stakes world. Looking forward to seeing how this pans out.

Re: My RPGM3 Project: Lironus Legacy

See, now THIS is what I'm talking about!

I stopped reading after the first paragraph of the second post, not because I was bored, but because I didn't want to spoil too much of it for myself, because it's good enough that I could definitely see myself playing and really enjoying it if there's fun gameplay underneath. Even then, I'm tempted to read it all.

But what you've got here is a thousand times better than those first few posts! Now it looks like a dynamic, living world, with characters that are gong to be driving the plot instead of taking a back seat to it. Characters, backstory, and unique gameplay ALWAYS eclipse stats when you're trying to promote your game. Everyone can present the RPGM3 stats of some characters. Not everyone can imagine a coherent backstory as rich and as good as yours, Cysma, and hopefully you'll be able to translate it into a well-paced game, because not everyone can do that, either.

                        Really nice job.

What's that supposed to mean? If anything, I take a bit of the credit for pushing him (her?) to rock it with his second set of posts! And in any case, I'm happy he did so. Or do you simply mean that there is a new wall-of-text champion? (In which case, I think Perv still takes the cake.)

I mean that, reading through this thread, I had a similar reaction to you guys; my interest was kind of vaguely piqued, but I didn't have much to comment on. Then both of you posted, essentially saying, "I don't see backstory" (<--gross oversimplification) and then Cysma promptly posted this kick-ass summary.

It was more of a compliment to him than a derogatory remark on either of you; I'm glad you suggested that he post it. You have to admit though, he did absolutely slay your original impression (in a good way). He certainly overwhelmed my expectations.

Woah, don't mean to hijack this thread. I'll shut up now.

I'll be honest, though...I've not gotten much father than the very beginning of what you posted, not because I was bored (as Wave also suggested), but because I'm just now realizing how difficult it must be for others to read a wall of text when I type one. I'll get to it at some point in the near future, but the formatting is scaring me off a bit.
