Stores are waging a DVD price war

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091106/..._dvd_price_war

And we get to benefit! I just pre-ordered my Star Trek DVD for 9.99 on Target.com with FREE shipping! I wouldn't even be able to walk into my own Target store and get it that cheap!

So, if you want to get new movies cheap, now is the time!

They're invoking a penalty on those that move on to new technologies before those technologies even close to being necessary.

Thanks to this news I found out about the book price war, and so now I ordered Stephen King's new book for just $9 new. GO TEAM.

They need a Bluray price war! Especially this time of year.

Blu-Ray is not quite, but almost a necessity with a high def TV. Standard definition DVDs look like ass on an HDTV.

It's like those older customers I get at work who are shocked to hear that DVD might be phased out soon, because they just got their first DVD played 2 years ago. It's like, DVD has been out for a decade now. You had a full decade to decide to purchase one.

Might be? Its already being phased out.

Blu-Ray's time will be short lived, if its ever the dominant format at all. Its going to go completely streaming or all digital download from here.

It would be nice to just have a hdtv. I am still stuck with my standard def tv.

Streaming/digital download is never going to completely replace Blu-Ray, in my opinion, because it's impossible to get the same quality of picture and sound over the Internet with the current infrastructure.

Anyone know what the average size of a blu-ray disc takes up? I think I remember hearing it had a capacity of 60GB, but I doubt that most of them even come close to taking up that much space.

50 GB, if it's dual-layered. And some do.

Enjoy downloading your 50GB movies and vidya games, wave of the future~

(I'm sure there will be a time where 50GB won't be that big, as 1GB used to be a lot one day. But for now? Hellll no.)

Not as long as America's broadband infrastructure is so far behind the times! Fiber-optic lines with download speeds in the gigs would be nice!
