I just bought this $1600 computer.....

    .....for around $850.

    http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...376&catid=

Yesterday I saw it on the shelf all discounted for $999. A sales rep guy told me it was a display model and since it had Windows Vista they were replacing it with the exact same PC but with Windows 7 out on the floor. I was all hell yeah I might come back for that!

Then today I went back and this other sales rep was telling me some guy bought it new out of the box, and had it for 3 days, and somehow got like 6000 virus files on it and brought it back, and the manager who was on shift gave him ANOTHER ONE, instead of just fixing his firs one. So they wiped it clean and marked it way the hell down.

Two different stories, but who gives a damn right? For 3 days Futureshops having a sale where if you spend $1000+ you get $100 off. I also had a $200 gift card from my birthday that I hadnt used yet. Then they said for $40 extra they would update it to Windows 7 Home Premium. Its going to take them like two days to put W7 on though, which is bullcrap. I told the girl "Can I just take the windows 7 disc your going to give me anyway, and I can do it at home myself so I dont have to wait two days?". Shes says that to do that shed have to charge me full price for W7 instead of the $40 for them to do it. Its retarded but whatever.

They probably install their own ****ty bloat-ware like they always do on pre-built PCs, so Ill probbaly do a fresh install when I get it home myself. Im also paranoid that they will somehow sabotage it while its there for two dyas because I didnt want their stupid extended warranty that was like an extra $300 for 4 years. Bastards.

Now I dont know what to do with my current computer! Im debating on if I should sell it or keep it around for whatever reason.

    Windows XP Media Center Edition
    3.0ghz Pentium D 930
    4gigs DDR2 800mhz ram
    300gig HDD
    8800 GT Alphadog Edition
    TV card
    Wifi card

Are those the specs of the new one? That is a sweet rig. Mine is better, but yours is still sweet.

If that is the old one you could probably sell it for some good money. That is still a good setup.

          8800s run ridiculously hot.

I'm about to upgrade to ATI's 5870, if they ever get more in stock...

The specs for the new one are in the link. The ones I typed out are my old one. Its still pretty kickass.

Yeah my 8800 dos run pretty hot. It can easily get u to like 80C if i dont turn up the fan, which really sucks because anything higher than 40% and it starts sounding like somebody turned on a hair dryer right beside me. 100% sounds like a jet taking off.

I honeslty dont know what the point of 12gigs of ram in the new one is going to do. Can a 64bit OS even detect that? I thought they maxed out at 8?

A 64bit OS can address every grain of sand on every beach on the planet, you'll be able to use it all.

To make it very plain, it can address two to the sixty fourth power memory segments, which are usually 56 bytes. That is a very large number.

Current 64-bit versions of Windows max out at 128GB of RAM. That's not a 64-bit limitation, Microsoft I guess didn't see any point in making it able to address more at this point in time. I'm not sure about Windows 7. The actual 64-bit limit is way higher than 128GB though. (That is to say unless any service packs have changed this).
