    remember when MTV had balls?

I know this is going to make me sound like a reminiscent old fogie, but remember when MTV would put on crazy **** no one else would? I remember stuff like Liquid Television, MTV's Oddities: The Head & The Maxx, Aeon Flux, whatever. It wasn't all great, but it was a different flavor you don't see anymore, not even on Adult Swim. I myself loved The Head, something a lot of you probably don't remember.

Rememer Downtown? I loved that show. Made by the guys that made Megas XLR, which is why they always had something in the background owned by "WTV" being horribly destroyed by giant robots.

If you contact the creators on their blog they can send you a DVD for like $15 with all the Downtown episodes, snince MTV refuses to do an actual DVD release, and the guys HATE MTV.

Also Beavis and Butthead. I miss all those old MTV cartoons. :"(

I blame MTV for justifying cartoons like Downtown and Daria being on a newtork named Music Television by bogging them down in current popular songs that would make the licensing rights for releasing them on home video skyrocket, making a proper home video release prohibitively expensive.

Gonna have to agree with this. Music licensing is a nightmare and if they removed all the songs with generic sounds it would ruin the feel of the show.

The first piece of animation I saw on MTV was Henry Selick's weird as hell Slow Bob in the Lower Dimensions which moved Tim Burton to demanding he directed Nightmare Before Christmas.

I also really, really enjoyed Celebrity Deathmatch and wish that would hit DVD in some kind of seasonal form.

I believe Duckman was originally USA and no, MTV never played music where in the world did you get these thoughts???

Now that I think about it... MTV and Nickelodeon are both owned by Viacom, right? Well, MTV2 was created as a (mostly) dedicated music channel while Nicktoons was created to air all the cartoons Nick removed to make room for 8hours of Spongebob and their Teen Girls in Short Shorts series that pretty much one guy has been directing for the passed 20 years.

Basically you have to pay extra to actually see music/cartoons on channels that once advertised music and cartoons!

I think they played music back in the 80's

To be fair, MTV also aired a lot of crap. Remember The Brothers Grunt?

Dude, I only watched Aeon Flux for the first time during this past year. It's great!

Only it has the opposite problem of all those other shows. Rather than being filled with pop music - which would've been awesome - it's got this ****in' Nicktoon-sounding background music. You get used to it after a while, but, man, I feel like GOOD music would make that show even better.

I remember sneaking over to my neighbors house to watch all their cartoons because my parents didn't want me watching it.

I remember the first time I saw Aeon Flux. It was the episode Demiurge, not that I knew that at the time. I had no idea what was going on and Aeon's outfit made me think it might be an "adult" cartoon that somehow got aired at an early hour. Not too long back I rented the DVD set, found out what the series was all about and how much it kicked ass. The movie was lame but I liked some bits of it. The movie-based game was actually more like the show just with the movie's visuals and was pretty fun though repetitive.

I remember when some of MTV's programming actually had something to do with music.

I don't really get why that's such a barb now. I mean doesn't everyone complain about how today's music sucks anyway?
