    PS3 Production Costs and Price

Right on que, the magazine Toyo Keizai calculated the PS3 component price, the estimated result being approximately 54,000 yen (around $494). That's one hefty tank. Of course, they likely won't sell it for that month-salary price, so it's quite possible that it'll sell for a more comforting group of numbers (estimated $399).

Here're a couple of articles for the full story:

For some inane reason, I just don't care about the next-gen systems.

Wake me up when they're talking about selling it for $200.

With a backlog of about a dozen MILLION games I've YET to play for the past TWO generations, yes, I agree.

I haven't played a single game in over a month.

Scratch that. I killed a guy in GTA: San Andreas over the weekend, but it was because I was with friends and they wanted me to play.

              $400?!?!

It better address me by name if it's that damn expensive. I'm not plunking down 400 bucks for it regardless. That's too expensive.

Sony will only go so low, however. In an interview with Japanese publication Toyo Keizai, Ken Kutaragi expressed confidence in his product by stating that consumers will look at the PS3 and think to themselves "Okay, I'll work more hours and buy it." Kutaragi also referenced the PlayStation and PlayStation Portable launches, stating that the PS1 launch against Nintendo's SNES, which was selling at a marginally lower price at the time, and still performed amazingly well, while the PSP launched against the GBA and managed to sell out in stores.
                  ...

Kutaragi should get acquainted with my nuts.

                  Y'know. For licking.

I love the Playstation, but Kutaragi's obnoxious and arrogant. This is worse than the square button argument.

"The CPUs of the Xbox 360 and the PS3 oth rate at 3.2GHz, but don't be fooled. in terms of true perormance --GigaFLOPs, aterm that refers to the sheer number of floating point operations a processor can handle-- there's NO CONTEST. the Xbos CPU can handle 115 GigaFLOPs, but the PS3's CPU is capable of a monstrous 218 GigaFLOP, nearly twise the brute strenghth the Xbox 360 is capable of."

With something that powerful I'l be willing to pay nearly twice the cost of the Xbox 360 to get it! Technology is soo awesome, I can't wait to get my hands on something this powerful. :-)

Wasnt the PS2s price pretty damn steep for about the first year it came out?
