    Transformers 3 (yes, already)

    Yup.

Michael Bay confirmed that the next movie is set for July 1st, 2011.

Well its official: We have a great Transformers 3 story. The release date is now July 1st 2011. Not 2012.

Today is Day One. This morning started with an ILM meeting for five hours in San Francisco. Currently I'm flying with writer Ehren Kruger to Rhode Island to talk to Hasbro about new characters.

P.S. Megan Fox, welcome back. I promise no alien robots will harm you in any way during the production of this motion picture. Please consult your Physician when working under my direction because some side effects can occur, such as mild dizziness, intense nausea, suicidal tendencies, depression, minor chest hair growth, random internal hemorrhaging and inability to sleep. As some directors may be hazardous to your health, please consult your Doctor to determine if this is right for you.

Pain and Gain is right after shooting of Trans 3.

    Michael
Orci and Kurtzman will not be writing the third movie, but instead Ehren Kruger will be writing. the guy who put Devastator's balls in ROTF.

    yaaaaaaaaaay.

ROTF turned out bad mostly because it was written in about a month due to the writer's strike. that shouldnt be a problem for this one, but... devastator's balls.

it also means that whatever series hasbro had planned for after the ROTF toyline is going to die prematurely just like Transformers Animated did. Hasbro had been operating under the belief that the next movie was a few years off. they have to plan everything about a year in advance. so yeah, whatever series was set to come next is going to be hurt by this.

    No, I'm not excited.

I don't think any extra time in the oven was going to help Transformers 2. Michael Bay is just an unbelievable hack.

I just hope it isn't like what happened with The Matrix. They took three months to film Matrix: Revolutions. I literally saw the preview for Revolutions not days after Reloaded came out. Although I really liked ROTF and Keanu Reeves (who would be a legitimate role as a transformer, seeing as he is most certainly a robot) won't be in it, a third one so soon is just a little bit premature.

I had a big wall of text prepared talking about how The Matrix's sequel scenario couldn't really be compared to this and then I said **** that. Matrix and Pirates of the Caribbean had sequels that got pushed out so close together because they were two movies telling one story. They were plotted together and filmed one right after the other, and I think in Matrix's case some of the stuff for Revolutions was filmed during filming for Reloaded, kind of how Lord of the Rings filmed everything for all three movies before the first movie ever got released.

This is a standalone sequel hastily planned after a crappy standalone sequel, plotted and planned separately, just really close together with no regard for quality, just another big budget summer popcorn flick.

Is two years "really close together?" I mean, the Matrix sequels had like, six months between them. And the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels had a single year. And Iron Man is getting a similar 2 year turnaround.

You are correct. For some reason I thought they were doing a 2010 release, which seemed really ludicrous.

But my argument is still the same in that Matrix can't really be compared to this.

                      Re: Transformers 3 (yes, already)

two years is deceptive with transformers, since it has to tie in so closely with the toyline, and the TF toys are the most complex mass-retail toys there are.

it takes 18 months for them to go from designing a figure to having it ready for sale. and then add in the gap between "it's done" and "it's on the shelf".

they have approximately 4 months to get everything ironed out, cast and design-wise.

no, two years isnt a lot of time. a lot of the ROTF figures feel rushed (the bikes, jolt, soundwave, cannon bumblebee, leader class megatron, devastator), and I dont think hasbro will want that happening again.

even if you dont care about the toys, ILM will still have to have the cast, designs, and possible gimmicks/accessories/weapons done in time for hasbro.

I don't care about the toys at all. Maybe that's why Transformers never hit it off with me!

I know you dont care about the toys. most people who see the movies dont care about the toys. but the fact that the toys exist and take so long to engineer really hurts this movies chances of being anything worth watching with the 2 year window. so much has to be set in stone in just 4 months.

Yeah, and the extra time with the first movie made it turn out so well. :V

it did. I love the first movie.

even ebert liked the first movie.

and then he said ROTF ruined action movies forever.
