    Picture Progress Report

Here it is! Many thanks to Ixzion for hooking me up with the iMAGine on my SSA to help make this possible. And I also thank you Ixzion for your screenshot guide. It was very helpful!

Basically, this is a companion topic to my main thread for my as-of-yet unnamed new platforming game. I know that typing out a description of what I've finished and showing the difference in pictures is huge, so I hope to give you a birds-eye view into the progress that I've made so far.

Since the game is a work in progress, you can expect the game to likely change between what you see here and the final product. Likewise, I'll be exploring much of my game as it's made, so there will be spoilers.

For the first post, I hope to show some limited areas of the first level, 1-1 Sea Cave. The pictures I took are of the unfinished verion; the dugeon design is final, but not all of the scripts are done, as there are no enemies.

With that out of the way, let's get started!

Here's the beginning of the level you warp to. That sparkling area to the right of our main character Josh is a jump pad. Press X when standing on it, and you'll jump to a pre-chosen area. While you have no control while in mid-flight, I'm designing the game so you never really jump into danger.

Jumping down quite a ways, you'll reach the bottom. When you use the jump pad Josh is standing on, he'll jump in the water and you swim your way around.

Here's one of the lower areas of this particular level. In one update, I mentioned the rock formation and using one rock graphic and spreading it around somewhat randomly. This is the end result. As you can see, it's not sloppy at all and it's both good looking and a perfect "random but not too random", or "random but too predictable". At least, I think so.

Here we're at the near end of the level. After going underneath a cave, you'll reach the top here and a jump pad (not there, will be there in the final version), and jump out of the after to the sandy spot, and walk to the level exit.

So, there's the first picture progress update. I realize it may be rather short, but this is my first time trying something like this. Next time I'll have more to show, as more levels are being made. Stay tuned!

    Re: Picture Progress Report

It's been a while since I've updated this topic, so it's about time you got some new info. Today we're going to be looking at level 1-2, which I believe is called Sandy Fun, since it starts on a beach. So, let's get started!

Here you start near the beginning of the game, and moving along you catch a glimpse of...something.

You only can see a little bit of it however. Try and memorize where it is, it'll save you time later.

This screenshot doesn't accurately show what I wanted it to show, so I'll explain. The jump pad on the left is a regular jump pad. The one on the right is red colored. What makes it so special? It allows you to jump higher than normal.

It allows you to reach this really high cliff, which can get you to the platform above.

Moving onward, you have a couple of options.

As you can see, there are many enemies and ladders and jump pads to use. The jump pads take you directly down. If you choose the right one, you'll land on a platform and get a prize. Miss, and you'll have to climb back up. One is a direct hit, one gets you near, and one isn't even close. (To land on the platform, take the leftmost jump pad).

And here's what you get when you land on the platform. I'm planning on using tokens to unlock fun things at the hubworld. Something to give the player something to search for, and look forward to.

Look out for new updates, ok? They are coming!

      Re: Picture Progress Report

I'm sad to report that this topic will likely be closed.

The situation is this: I use my brother's computer to use epsxe and take the screenshots I do. Unfortunately, he recently decided to wipe most of the memory from his computer. Thankfully all my files are still on the computer (and sitting at 900 MB, I may need to get a big disk drive or CD just to remove everything). But this would still leave the problem of making screenshots for this topic. I'll try to negotiate with him about it, or run it from my old windows 98 computer, but it's unlikely either of those will work.

And what really sucks about this, is you guys suffer for it. I do apologize. If I can get this up and running again, that's great. Otherwise, it's unlikely we'll see another progress post here.
