    Another year, another TV

Yeah, I bought another TV I don't need. It's a 2008 Samsung A750, 46". Top of the line that we carried last year was the A850. Best Buy exclusively carried the A950, so realistically, it's only a step or two down from the top of the line. Brand new price was $2200, we had it on closeout for $1299, and had it marked down to $699. My buddy I share a house with bought one brand new in the box for that price, and I bought another before I left work that day as an open item for the same price. I've had it for a few days now, and it is a really, REALLY nice looking TV. I'm gonna sell my 32" high end (from 2007) Sony for probably $325. This new one is realistically only gonna end up costing about $50, not taking into account anything I make on the Sony. I ended up cancelling the protection agreements on both of my current TVs (they do not even prorate within the first year, and do not dock you for more if you'd had a service call, which I did to replace the lamp on my DLP) and am gonna be getting a check in the mail probably next week for about $630.

    Also, this:

Is this habit of purchasing a television only a way to compensate for you self-pity and strangeness that seems to be hovering over the Pav due to your ramblings that make you seem intelligent but kinda cool because you like to express you're feelings about stuff so that's why you buy a tv a lot or is it because you like large tvs and you consider bigger tvs much more advanced then the primitive tvs in the past?

Meh. If I could afford to buy a brand new, top-tier TV (or anything) every year, you bet your ass I would.

Well, it's not like I can really AFFORD to buy a new TV every year. The purchase of this one was only justified by cancelling the protection agreements on both of my other TVs.

Also, I definitely cannot afford to buy high end TVs at full price. I personally cannot fathom dropping $2000-$3000 on a TV once, let alone once a year. It just so happens that where I work, I sometimes come across these great deals that are too good to pass up. Again, my buddy bought this for $699 brand new in the box. The few retailers listed on CNET that still carried this model had it listed for $1500-$1800.

The way I look at it, I paid $440 for my Sony 32", which was a $1200 TV brand new. If I can get $325 for it (I'll probably end up selling it to a friend, so I'm not gonna gouge them on the price), I figure I got my $115 of worth out of it.

Bottom line is, I like owning mid-to-high end audio and video equipment, but there's no way in hell I'm gonna pay anywhere NEAR full retail. My entire audio setup (not including TVs or speaker wire/connections/etc) has a combined list price of about $3000, and I paid just about $1400 for it. Granted, this was piecemeal, not in one fell swoop, so it was a bit easier to manage. I have expensive tastes, but I'm still a Bohemian at heart (meaning, I'm cheap on some things, and look for killer deals).

I have such a hard time motivating myself to spend money. And then when I do I usually regret it to some degree even when I'm happy with the item. The bright side is that it makes it easy for me to save money.
