Is it just me or are the stroylines in Capcom games really bad?

    Character Development, etc.

Maybe it's just me. I always liked the gameplay, but name a storyline, even Resident Evil and it's just silly. I always hated the characters and the storylines made no sence to me and really seemed to be inconsistant. I always loved Monster Hunter and games of that ilk because stories, I feel, are not thier professional strong-suit.

    Maybe I am just crazy?

    Your thoughts pavmmunity?

No, Capcom definately has no idea how to do story. And they know it too. Just look at Mega Man 9's ending.

    And then there's Zero.

The only game that I can argue as having great story and characters is MML. But they stopped doing it, go figure.
    ...and that's why.

I'm pretty sure Capcom doesn't care about plot and anyone who plays their games looking for sharp storytelling is looking in the wrong areas. A look at any Resident Evil game or, hell, the manual of any Street Fighter game will tell you that much.

Even Legends was bad. It was funny and lighthearted with likable characters but it's just as hamfisted and clunky as every one of Capcom's games.

Edit: With this said, I think Capcom succeeds in some areas. I'm pretty sure the original Resident Evil is an homage to campy Western horror films and they definitely hit the nail on the head. I can't say the same for the rest of the series, but RE4 and RE5 feel like they're parodying this generation of action movies which try to go for an epic plot but fall flat on their face quarter of the way in.

Oh yeah, maybe Pheonix Wright is the exception to the rule?

You can't just have an exception to the rule because Capcom has a series with a good story! :V

              Don't copy that floppy!

Isn't that a definition to an exception of a rule?

Phoenix Wright is a pretty ridiculous game with campy plots, moronic characters, and a draconic justice system that could only exist in a farce.

It's a well written series from a comedic standpoint but I thought the point of this topic was that Capcom has never successfully handled a game without diverging into the realm of outright silliness.

I always really enjoyed the plot of RE and couldn't wait to see where it'd go next until RE5 came out :s

phoenix wright: a wall of text

phoenix: I have proven my client did not kill this man

Defendant: But it is all for naught if you can not prove who the killer is!

                            Phoenix: **** you.

                              Me too.

I really don't know why you'd complain so much about the stories in Capcom games as long as the games are fun and charming.

RE4's plot is garbage by any rational analysis but **** you if you weren't won over by Leon, Saddler, Ada and Ashley by the end.
