Have you ever considered owning or do you own an exotic pet?
I've considered obtaining a caiman for a pet. They are kept as pets more commonly than traditionally thought, one example being a Japanese man that keeps one in his home; he even walks it outside on a leash:

They are still capable of taking your arm off.
I currently own a small snake, but I want an animal that is large and capable of attacking intruders(or at least capable of scaring them away even if it does nothing). While a caiman may not be as trainable to the extent that a dog is, they can and will attack someone if they feel a threat or see a potential prey item.
Other considerations include:
-green anacondas
-perentie goannas
-reticulated pythons
-American alligators (potentially more dangerous than, but less aggressive than most caimans)
-turkey vultures (highly intelligent, very trainable, and delightfully disgusting)
-king cobras (very intelligent for a snake)
