    Core temp problems

Yeah so my CPU core is an AMD X2 6000. I've had it for just over two years.

Earlier there was this burning smell coming out the tower, so I ran a program to check the temperatures. The core is sitting at around 55-58C running idle. I'm afraid to try loading it up because apparently the max operating temperature is 63c.

I took the case cover off the side and I propped a box fan up against it to try to cool it. It only took it down a degree or two.

About a month ago I did a thorough cleaning of the entire case, heatsink, etc. so dust is not the culprit. A friend of mine suggested that the thermo paste could've degraded, but from what I've read online that should only effect the temperature by a degree or two.

Any ideas as to why its running so hot?

    Re: Core temp problems

all normal fans are running good/ not impinging on anything? did you do any overclocking where you set your system to work faster? is your memory insufficient? (maybe its operating at peak all the time due to system stress?) maybe the heat sink is faulty?

i took a look at some sites and they all had different ideas, but very few actually gave a fix beyond whats already been done.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!
