So there's no DJ Hero topic yet...but now there is!

Am I the only one here who is interested in this? I've been SOOOOOO on the fence about this for the past few months. I really do not f***ing need ANOTHER plastic "instrument" cluttering up my living quarters, but the fact that DJ Shadow was doing a bunch of the mixes was intriguing, but not enough to sell me on it.

However, after reading this, I think I've made up my mind. Friggin' 11 Daft Punk mixes and 2 "megamixes"!!!! I'm just hoping at least 3 or 4 are from Homework. Revolution 909, Rollin' and Scratchin' and Da Funk would bring tears of joy to my eyes.

I'm keen on beatmania, so I'm willing to give this a chance. I haven't been up on my hip-hop and club music lately, though.

They're not hollow. They're filled with intricate circuits and electronics.

Unless you mean hollow as in, the entire experience of pretending to play songs on plastic instruments is hollow. Which it is, don't get me wrong. But it's also fun!

ANNNND....just found a list of 8 of the 11 songs. Da Funk mashed up with Another One Bites The Dust?!?! How awesome is that?

Frequency was a pretty good game.

Even i say they are pushing it WAYYY to far. This is a dumb idea. Just buy one of the other hundreds of DJ/Turntable style rhythm games.

Also, other than not releasing GH: Van Halen as a retail product and instead giving it as a "bonus" with the purchase of GH 5, this is the best thing Activision has done with the franchise since they took it over.

I say that now...let's wait a few years from now when DJ Hero is milked dry. If it's successful, you know Activision will continue trying to squeeze blood from a turnip.

And you use the word "pushing" as in, ongoing. I think the release of the DS GH was when the franchise jumped the shark. Just because YOU may not like electronic music or hip hop doesn't mean you should denigrate it. Some people are just not that into rock music, and those that are MAY be looking for something different instead of the same rehash year after year with a different setlist.

I'm confused on how one would play this. I watched the daft punk trailer, and it just seemed weird.

No thank you. How are you supposed to hold a turntable while standing anyway???

                    Partial setlist with trailers below.

Looks good so far, but I'm hoping there are a few more surprises.

Saw this trailer accompanied by "Hollaback Girl".

That was enough to turn me off.

I think I'd rather learn how to use Korg DS-10 than press a colored button when the screen tells me to durring “I Heard it Through the Grapevine”.
Oh my god! You are so beautiful.
I had no idea how beautiful you were.

I think people are really getting fed up with how many plastic instruments they have to buy. Plus does anybody actually dream about being a DJ? Besides Daft punk do have their following, but most people don't really care much for them.

Well, I appreciate the fact that they've got Grandmaster Flash doing a few mashups, one of which is Herbie Hancock's Rockit. That's genius.

Daft Punk's early stuff IS good. I bought their first album the day it came out back in 1995 (geez...has it really been that long?). Yeah, their newer stuff is kinda crap, but their inclusion, plus having DJ Shadow in the game cemented the deal for me. He's one of two turntablists I can think of that can make something that the average music listener would consider "music," because I know the average music listener does not consider turntablism music. The other would be Kid Koala.

Yeah, if you have no interest in electronic music or turntablism, you'd have no interest in this game. I've been listening to both forms of music since the mid 80s (what was then "breakdancing" music which was my first exposure to scratching and "turntablism," even though it was not called that back then) and the late 80s/ealy 90s (808 State, Dee-lite, The Orb, Orbital, etc, and later Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, drum and bass music, etc), respectively, so I'm glad to see stuff like this finally getting its due.

If they put anything by Deltron (or even just Kid Koala) in the game, I'd s*** myself silly. Granted The Gorillaz have a song or two in the game, but it's just not the same as Deltron.

As for the Korg DS-10 argument, I own that game as well. But that's the same tired argument against Rock Band/Guitar Hero..."Just play a real instrument." With the Korg program, yeah, you're making your own music, and it IS fun, but it's actual work to make something that sounds good. DJ Hero just seems like something to kick back and have fun with.

Got the Renegade version for the PS3 today as one part of Best Buy's buy two, get one free sale today. It was $200, but damn, if it wasn't worth it. Hard case which doubles as a stand (no need to find an extra table to use), REALLY good setlist (toward the latter half...the first few sets are a bit lacking), and Jay-Z and Eminem exclusive CDs ().

Surprisingly, Daft Punk's setlist is actually really underwhelming. DJ Jazzy Jeff (from Fresh Prince fame)'s setlist is somehow better, and it's only 2 songs long. DJ Shadow's setlist is great (no shocker there), and there were a few other sets that surprised me.

Made my final decision on this after reading the IGN reviews from both Europe and the US last night. It absolutely puts a shot in the arm of the increasingly stale and redundant rhythm action genre. I'm blowing through easy (I think I've got two more sets), and hopefully I can move up to medium without too much trouble. The crossfader is gonna take some getting used to. Tried it once, and I sucked horribly. But now that I've got most of the basics down, and have five starred most of the songs I've played, it shouldn't be that tough.
