Keep your candle lit for Dreamcast

On 9/9/99, ten years ago, Sega had a Dream ... CAST. :V

It's that time of year again. ONLY MORE IMPORTANT CUZ IT'S TEN YEARS NOW

Let's rub each other with nostalgic tears and talk about how the vidya just ain't what it used to be now that core gamers are ignored for Guitar Hero **** and Sonic is a rat***** ****** of his former self.

GOD, I LOVE YOU, DREAMCAST. It makes me feel like this:

Also, Chu Chu Rocket is still a **** awesome game.

Re: Keep your candle lit for Dreamcast

I HAD Grandia II for Dreamcast, but no longer do. Instead, I have the supposed abomination that is the PS2 version.

I'd like to get into SoA again, as it IS my favorite game of all time, but I'd want to play the GC version, as I never got too far in that one. And on my second SoA playthrough, I was over 120 hours, so I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I also used to have some rare anime-based DC game that I no longer have, either. It was a hack and slash, but cannot remember what it is right now.

If I had to pick one DC game still in my collection (which went from 50+ back in the day to ten if I'm lucky now), I'd probably pick...ummm...the only good ones I have worth mentioning are SoA, Shenmue, and both PSOs. So probably Shadowman or Worms World Party.

I can't remember what happened to my DreamCast, he was my best friend and was always there for me.

"Hey, you want to hang out at my place?"

                  "**** you, I'm playing DreamCast!"

                  "Oh."

The Dreamcast was garbage with terrible design decisions like a memory card that requires batteries and the controllers cable extends from the ****ing bottom who the hell thought that was a good idea??. Aside from a handful of decent exclusives (like... 5 games total) and a few near perfect arcade ports the DC was a piece of junk.

And yet I got one specifically for Shenmue and didn't regret it. Thankfully the hunk of plastic ran me like $20 at a pawn shop.

The memory card didn't REQUIRE batteries. It could still save without them. It just made a high-pitched whine on powering up until you replaced them.

The thing I remember most about the Dreamcast is that it was the first time I was able to look at in-game graphics without making excuses for how jaggy and ugly they were - because they weren't! Even crappy games had a bright, clean aesthetic.

But, yeah, I realized pretty recently how small the library of decent games was. But that library's a big deal to me, because it includes my two favorite fighting games - Soul Calibur and Project Justice - two of my favorite video game soundtracks - Space Channel 5 and Jet Set Radio, and I guess Napple Tale - and... uh...

                              Seaman.
