    CREDIT CARDS

Whats a good one to get? Who has pretty good rates and all that jazz? Ive had a crappy "student" mastercard from the bank in the town I used to live in that expired a few months ago. It only had a $1000 limit and couldnt go any higher so I havent bothered renewing it.

I keep considering Capital One, but some people tell me to avoid them like the plague because if you miss one payment or are late on a payment they will ruin your life. I never use my card unless its an emergency, or I have the money to pay it off like the very next day, so Im not too worried about that.

Ones that let me pick/make my own design get bonus points.

      Re: CREDIT CARDS

I've always like American Express the most.

Best rewards that I've seen (unless you're spending a lot, the "Blue" line might be the best way to go, because there are no annual fees. I use Blue Sky, though Blue Cash looks great too), great online tools, relatively high lines of credit, and by FAR the best customer service (if you ever have a problem, call up and they will find a way to resolve it. That's so not true with other companies).

The drawback is that some smaller operations or online retailers don't take it, because AmEx does charge higher fees to vendors than other cards, and they're a little more stringent about who they allow to become a cardholder.

I don't know about customization, and I can't speak for the APR's (I think they're in line with other companies) because I honestly ignore them. It's not a good idea to pay any less than the full amount if you can avoid it. Obviously, sometimes you can't avoid it, but float the money for a short a time as possible. Cut back if you need to. Anyway, I do know their minimum monthly payments, if you don't want to pay in full, do tend to be really low, like 1% to 5% of your balance.

I got a citicard (Visa) a few years ago with like 16%APR and all I did was put gas on it and immediately pay it off online to get credit.

They want me to keep the card so bad they upped my limit to like 5000 dollars and dropped my APR to 10%. It's handy for those stupid emergencys like leaving your debit card at home. Or like, you know, when you don't want to give your check card to your butler when he goes out shopping for your groceries and brings them back to your mansion.

Capital One is alright. They let you upload photos to put on a credit card. I haven't missed any payments, so I don't know how bad they'll rape you.

I've paid off all my cards and feel good about it. I only use one of my cards for autopay bills, then pay that bill every month.

I picked up a VISA card to get a credit rating when I moved out of my Mom's house. It's been nice to have in case of unexpected expenses, and I make a payment or two every month. I haven't had any problems with them. I think my APR is 19% or something like that. >_>

My AmEx card has a $10K limit, and 18% APR which is freaking TERRIBLE but I keep it because you never know when you might need $10,000.

My bank credit card is $4,500, it's a Visa, and has 9% APR. This is the one I use when I need to cause the interest rate is nice and low in comparison with AmEx's highway robbery.

Of the two, Visa treats me kinder.
