    Your Top 5 overrated games

So what are your picks for top 5 overrated games? I'm curious.

    The stipulations are:

    - By "overrated", I mean titles that most gamers on earth are aware of and they may be crappy, okay, or even some fun to play but aren't as "great" or "amazing" as the reviewers praise.

    - They also have to be games that you have actually played for more than two minutes. I mean, even I played Iron Man for at least an hour to give it a fair opinion..( and that is one hour I'll never get back again).

    GTAIV
    MGS4
    SCIV
    Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

And just to leave the "4" theme complete, I'm only gonna list my top 4 overrated games.

I don't think FFXII counts. There seems to be just as many people who love it as think it's over-rated. FFVII though, yeah.

I dunno. The "hype" centered around games doesn't bother me, as I tend not to focus on it too heavily and therefore, even if I think a game is over-rated it doesn't really register with me. I just know I didn't like it as much as other people and go about my business.

I find more people who hate FFVII than people who like it.

I think people only hate the game because it's cool to do so.

Guitar Hero/Rock Band - The novelty of playing with multiple friends aside, it eventually becomes nothing but pushing buttons in time with colored circles rushing at you.

GTA series - I've put my share of time in on these too, yet all I can truly remember about the experience is the endless driving/riding(why does San Fierro have to be so far?) and the exploration. The rest is unremarkable fetch quests and escort missions.

Disgaea - I wanted to like these games so much, I really did. But entertainment through tedium doesn't really work for me. Yes, you can reach level 9999, but why would you want to? Doing that would involve going to the same one map over and over again just to get the experience to do so. In fact, that's the whole game in a nutshell. Grind at one map until you unlock a new map where the grinding's better, then anime cutscene.

FFVII - Aged horribly; stereotyped characters; I've seen movies on MST3K with better plots than this; Aerith dying wasn't really all that impactful; SE may not have invented the bishounen but they sure as hell revolutionized it.

Madden - One new feature a year is enough for you people? They sell this **** for $60 a year? And they get away with it? This is ****ing bull****.

Gawd, I agree with Madden, Riot. Or any sports game, really. Couldn't you...you know? GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY FOOTBALL? You can't really go outside and say...kill a dragon.

But anyways, as long as no one says Chrono Trigger.

Re: Your Top 5 overrated games

Every Pokemon game - I don't get it. I've given every pokemon game released a try and I just don't get what people see in it. Each game is incredibly formulaic and based around the singular premise of grinding. I wouldn't care if there was a plot or interesting locations to back it up but going to the formulaic design Pokemon has absolutely zero variation. You're some nobody who's given a choice of pokemon followed by a battle with your rival and you travel to the coastal town, the big city, the slightly smaller city, the mountain town, the snow town, and the lava town grinding, grinding, and more grinding.

If you play competitively you end up grinding even more to load up on the hidden points that boost your stats. Every single new addition to the series from breeding to battling your friends revolves solely around wandering the empty, boring world filled with weak-but-tenacious-people-who-want-to-give-you-their-money and grinding monsters found in the grass.

                      Consistent top seller.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - I honestly did not expect Call of Duty to survive passed the 2nd game. I didn't expect it to survive passed the crappy console only 3rd game. Surprise surprise Call of Duty proves that having a robust multiplayer will carry you through generic design. 18 million sold, Jesus.

Halo - Another example of multiplayer carrying a generically designed product. I enjoyed the initial playthrough but after 10 matches I can't understand why anyone would continue to choke down the same stale setup.

Super Mario 64 - I won't dare deny this revolutionized the 3D platformer even when the PC wasn't dare experimenting with true 3D games. SM64 introduced at the same time the "must collect everything!" mind frame that now saturates nearly every platformer. What happened to the good old days when your goal was to simply get from point A to point B while killing monsters and not dying? Why must I now scour the huge, glittery map for random crap in illogical places to continue!?!

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - My favorite Castlevania and my most hated one at the same time. Introduced the now "metroidvania" design style that Konami refuses to deviate from. Symphony was buggy and the easily-discovered-through-accidental-button-mashing spells completely broke the game (SOUL STEALER!). Sure sure "Just don't use them" but not everyone has the will power to resist using something that's readily available and has zero drawback.

First of all the motion's a little tricky. Second of all, you're limited by MP. Unless you're a really high level, Soul Steal takes a significant chunk out of your MP and won't stop the really powerful enemies from coming at you.

FFVII, because everyone likes to hate on the popular kid.

Mp restoring items had a way of stacking up and mp regenerated pretty quickly. I discovered Soul Steal completely by accident while fighting Granfaloon and couldn't help myself afterward. It wasn't until a later replay I forced myself to never use it and the game was 30x more enjoyable.

Madden (We have online updates now to update the game and team rosters. Yet EA makes new retail versions each year, and people are actually stupid enough to buy the same game each year.)

FF7 (I loved FF7, but people need to move on from the Cloud/Sephiroth yaoi fantasies)
