Mike Mignola's Amazing Screw-on Head... the animated series?!

Paul Giamatti has signed with Sci Fi Channel to voice the lead character in the animated series pilot Amazing Screw-On Head, from executive producers Bryan Fuller ("Wonderfalls") and Jason Netter, reports Variety.

The cable channel last year quietly commissioned the pilot, based on Mike Mignola's (Hellboy) comic book of the same name. David Hyde Pierce, Molly Shannon and Patton Oswalt also will lend their voices to the project.

Giamatti will voice Screw-On Head, a Civil War-era secret agent at the service of president Abraham Lincoln and an unsung hero who never made it into the history books. His special power is the ability to screw his head onto a variety of different bodies. Hyde Pierce plays Emperor Zombie, Shannon voices Patience the Vampire and Oswalt is Mr. Groin.

Cable executives hope to see a finished pilot by early next year.

It would be nearly impossible to animate something in Mignola's style... I fear they will soften it or maybe even "WB" it and it will look like the rest of our watered-down american anime *shivers*

I'll hope for the best, like you said, it's on Sci-fi...

CRIMINEY, you're as predictable as the tides, Mora! I knew you'd fly to that show's defense as soon as you saw this topic! NO, I'm not knocking it, f00! I've never seen it (though I have seen commercials with that Korean chick..). I'm berating Sci-Fi for the MILLIONS OF OTHER great shows it produced then canceled shortly thereafter, which was a time long before it got in bed with Battlestar Galactica.

And the last time Sci-Fi was involved with animation it was an offensive piece of ****. I think it was Trippin' the Rift or something, it involved Kevin Smith I think.

My god, was that ass. Besides, Sci-Fi seems to be on an incline. Ben Browder's joining Stargate SG-1 in July! How AWESOME is THAT?

FYI, The Amazing Screw-on Head is a fantastic one-shot single-issue comic that you should pick up. It's a hilarious two-minute read. How they're gonna make this cartoon any longer than FIFTEEN minutes is beyond me. They'll probably accomplish that by making it bad.

edit: Though the casting certainly is superior. Paul Giamatti and David Hyde Pierce? Dayumn.

I need to start buying SG-1 dvd volumes, and start catching up on all the stuff I have been missing. I have been watching the series in spurts.
