Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete

This is a director's cut of the movie released on Blu-ray. 30 minutes of added footage, 1000 revised scenes, and a new animated cartoon sums up what's in this addition.

With all the content added to the movie, it almost feels like you're watching a different film. Even key scenes aren't played out in the same manner. I'm not sure I'd call this a better release, because I still have a hard time understanding the plot. I'd like to know what you thought of this movie and if you found the story confusing.

My first reaction was to come into this topic snarling and screaming at Square to make something new or else I would kill myself right here and now where I sit.

Instead I'll just say that Advent Children wasn't confusing to me at all - I knew exactly how much it didn't make sense.

The plot made sense (to me). The action was over-the top and pretty stupid, sure, but it's better than any of the other FF spin-offs. I'll take it for what it is. And it's only 2 hours long. That's much less painful than the time it takes one to beat Crisis Core or Dirge of Cerberus.

Oh, no, yeah. I love Advent Children.

But only real movies are supposed to get director's cuts.

I kind of agree with you on that one, Kefka. Everybody knows what the movie was suppose to be. A big helping of fan service. Forget the plot, it is all about the over the top fights. Which either turns you on or off. There is little ground there. So honestly, an extra thirty minutes is kind of silly. I'm going to spend how much for a movie I aready own for some extra scenes? Argh... I probably end up doing it, but I'll feel like a whore. A dirty dirty whore. I'll feel guilty the entire time then ***** about it. At least I'm honest.

I think Advent Children has a great story at its core. I think it's a rather understated tale of redemption and belonging. Cloud and Kadaj are perfect foils for each other, and the movie is at its best when they're both trying to figure out what's important to them.

The thing is, I can only imagine that the extra 30 minutes have nothing to do with what I'm talking about and are more likely some kind of bull**** commercial tie-in, or some tacked-on exposition that doesn't really matter in the first place.

Prove me wrong, children! Prove me wrong.

Destructoid had a good article about the theme of the movie that I didn't consider.

And coming out of the screening for Advent Children Complete, I can't help but feel that's the message being delivered to the fans: it's time to move on from Final Fantasy VII. They're not going to be here to pander to your whims forever. Uematsu, Nojima, Amano, and everyone else involved are just going to move on, leaving you to learn for yourself that it's time to outgrow this series.

                    Huh...

Well. I hope someone I know gets it.

That kind of reminds me of the essay linking On Your Mark to Nausicaa, saying it was Miyazaki's way of moving on after finishing it.

My biggest problem with Advent Children that most of my favorite characters (the non-pretty ones) got barely any screen time.

Get it when it enters the used market. FFXII is now at a pawn shop for $3.99. I got Star Ocean: Til the End of Time for $5.40.

This will find its way into the bargain bins in due time. Take the opportunity when it comes.

So they basically made a Director's Cut? Gah... I liked the movie but an extra 30 minutes is bogus. But I was expecting over the top fights for a Final Fantasy movie. Anything less even in the slightest would have been a disappointment for me.

The extra 30 minutes is mostly spent developing one of the orphan kids (Denzel?) because he has his own OVA spin-off or something.

I am actually steamed (still) that Red XIII had only one line in the whole movie.
