    "What's MLA format?"

How the **** does someone get into 400 level classes and not know how to cite in MLA format? How did they even graduate high school?

I've recently had to undertake a Stats project with a group of the biggest incompetents I've ever had the displeasure of working with. I basically did the entire ****ing paper while they talked loud in the computer lab ******* other people off.

"We copied all your work into a word document we r helping durrrr."

I've been exposed to MLA format so much my brain hurts and I'm just going into my Junior year.

It is a wonder how people like that get the idea to go to college. What with the questionable ambition and work ethic.

        Re: "What's MLA format?"

I found someone my senior year of college who could not for the life of him write a proper college-level paper, with references and everything. The vein throbbed on my forehead so menacingly.

You didn't go to college, Palk, so that's understandable. MLA is something that schools have been harping on for the past 5 or so years. It's a way of formatting your document and citing your sources. Someone my age not knowing what MLA format is, and is taking the same course I am can only be a result of their own ignorance.

It's all so terribly depressing. I'm in college. I'm supposed to be surrounded by bright, and intelligent thinkers that I can relate with. So far, all I've met are idiots and egomaniacs. I feel so alone.

BTW, I don't have to bother with MLA formatting. I get to deal with APA. :V

Yeah, it's either one or the other. Seems like they can't make up their mind!

Considering how there are websites that automatically do it for you I think it's pretty easy to get through college without knowing how to cite correctly.
Hell, I never knew how to do it offhand during college; and I only actually learned myself because I have to teach kids how to do it now.

I didn't learn about MLA/APA formatting till my first University class. Some people aren't exposed to one or the other due to their degree requirements.

Ironically, doing my Masters now, nobody really cares what format your citations are, so long as they exist. I use a personalized bastardized version of MLA.

I beg to differ. My freshman year of high school (in 1985...) was my first exposure to MLA format. So it's been around for at least 25 years. Granted, my freshman honors English classes could have easily been 200 (or higher) level college courses, but I distinctly remember the MLA handbook being a required text that I needed to purchase on my own. Which was odd to me, as every other class I'd ever taken to that point had had the textbooks supplied.

Not sure if only in the past five years is it something that colleges have been harping on, but wanted to point out that it's been around for a LOT longer, and most likely has been harped on for more than a quarter of a century.

It was around pretty hardcore when I was in high school, so yep. Longer than 5 years.

I used to draw while taking notes. Then lazy idiots would pay me for my notes (I had to block off the art parts).

I thought, here I am, drawing AND taking detailed notes while these people couldn't manage either. I remember one of them telling me it was because "it's so hard to get to a 9am class."

I actually found a website last semester that automatically formats citations in MLA. all you do is enter all the information (authors, publishing details, website address, etc).
