    Computer Advice/Reccomendations

Anyone know of a good wireless keyboard with a built in trackball or touchpad? This is the only one I was able to find that looked reasonable from my few minutes of searching. And then there's this one that looks pretty slick, too.

I'm looking to get an new tower and hook it up to my TV in my room, and then I'll just use the wireless keyboard/mouse as my means of connecting to the PC while being able to sit on my bed (given how small my room is, it's the only option). My laptop overheats my lap so much that I can't stand to use the thing for extended periods of time, and besides, it's kind of a P.O.S.

I might build the computer myself. Could anybody help me out with that or give me some advice on what to do and where to shop?

Why? When he could build a sweet PC for not much more? And be able to upgrade it whenever he needs to? Mac's are good for certain uses, PCs for others.

When the time comes for me to get another laptop, I'm sure that I'll get a Mac. But in the meantime? No thanks. It's not necessary for what I'm trying to do, here.

I'm more or less trying to make a "media center", of sorts.

For wireless keyboards I usually go with Logitech. However, I don't know for sure if they make the ones with trackballs built in so i can't really help much there.

For media centers, I know about that. I've built a gaming console from a computer with Mythbuntu. The beauty of Mythbuntu is not just that it's pretty darn sweet, it's also free.

Give me some more details and I will help you out as best I can with any free time I may have.

What all do you want it to do? What kind of TV do you have, and what resolution is it? What kind of hookups would you be using?

And you've got an ugly face.

I thought Chex Mix was telling me to get a mac because that's what everyone says. So my interpretation isn't really that far off from what he was going for, really.

I don't really know how keen I am on wanting to utilize the features of Myth/Ubuntu/Linux, but I'm going to look into it further. I was mostly thinking on building a normal PC with Windows built-in (pricing isn't an issue) for practical PC usage. I'm not looking to make a gaming rig, just something with a decent graphics card for running things like Photoshop, a high quality processor, and a good amount of ram.

Unless you have a specific purpose or applications to run, you don't need Windows. Photoshop can run in Linux. I usually recommend to stay away from Windows unless there are Windows specific applications you need to run.

If you're going to use Windows, stick with the version that came with your computer. There is no reason to upgrade to Vista or 7, neither offer you any usability that XP didn't. There may some day be some software or hardware that only works with a newer version of Windows, and only then should you upgrade.

Its 32 bit XP, I'm already at the ram limit. From what i've been told I need to upgrade to Vista at the very elast.

40 inches, and I'm only maybe 6-10 feet away from the TV at a given time. I'm sure that it'll work.

It's a 1080p Sony Bravia, don't know the resolution or what cables I need but I'm sure that I can figure that out no problem.
