    Do graphics make the game?

For me, I'm not picky about graphics. I'm not going to be as drawn to something that looks really bland and tacky to me. However, I don't expect it to be something that looks flawless, next-to-real, or as intricately detailed. If it happens to have a beautiful "visual candy" then that's great, but if it's beautiful and just simply not fun for me to play then I can't enjoy it at all and, to me, the given game is garbage. It's that simple.

What's your take on it, because I'd like to know.

Edit: By the way, this was inspired by YouTube hatorade...I got sick of reading comments like "~$OMG so g@y! sooo g@y...u SHUD PLaY (so-and-so game), gots wayy betr gwaphixxxxx!! HAXXORS!! THIS SUXX. OMFG!! DIE MOFO!! HAHAHAHA~$!!"

...I love people with an IQ of 18 that are able to type too...it amazes me to no end.

It helps, but it certainly doesn't make the game.

If everything is brown and dark and I can't tell the differnce between a wall and the enemy. There is a problem.

Battlefield: Bad Company is the first that comes to mind.

Although I reason it with the fact they are wearing Camo and you aren't supposed to see them. However so am I and they see me like i got a giant lightbulb on my head.

No. They sure don't. It is generally gameplay that makes the game. Which is kind of obvious, but there are cases where the gameplay isn't all that good yet the story keeps you around. As long as the game isn't so butt ugly that I can't stand it, I don't really care.

I think the answer is pretty common. But yes the graphics can make or break a game. I'm tired of playing next gen games no matter how fabolous it looks with everything under a cofee tinge. I don't think the jungle in africa is all brown. I'd assume it to be green.

I think that graphics are a big factor for me. (Mind you, I still only own a PS2, so I'm old-school now.) They definitely don't make the game though. I find myself having lots of fun with classic video games that, although their graphics are extremely simple by today's standards, are just plain fun!

I hate pre-2000 3D and wish developers never latched onto it because it all looks terrible ugly. Now that graphical processors are getting ridiculous, the stuff from 2005 still looks decent now but comparing something from 1995 to 2000 and you see this major gap in quality. 3D ruined some of my favorite PC games like Might and Magic which pretty much started the whole EVERYTHING IS BROWN AND DINGY fad.

With that said, certain games require graphics more than others. Obviously puzzle games don't need fancy rendering processes but first person shooters and other atmospheric projects completely rely on it. To me, good art direction is 298739437493 times more important than how many polygons can be rendered onscreen at once. Okami and Viewtiful Joe looked like moving picture books. Gears of War was pretty but completely bland.

I see graphics the same way I see a story. When done right they make a good game great, when half assed they make a good game bad/worse the game.

Square's fault for rushing it out the door and cutting out the extra stuff Dream Factory wanted.

Multiplayer co-op would have been nice, though.

                      Also, I loved The Bouncer.

One of the main reasons I was disappointed with the 360 is that while the games are much prettier and in many cases bigger this generation they don't really feel different let alone better than last-gen games. It mainly just made me want to go back to playing PS2, if only mine still worked.

I don't own too many 360 titles yet. I enjoy the ones I have, of course. I have played two sequel-titles for the 360 that looked fantastic but, personally, I found them a touch...disappointing for all of their hype.

This question depends on what the game is trying to do. Geometry Wars doesn't need amazing graphics in order to be fun. But a game that wants you to attach yourself to characters needs to have models that at least look and act mostly human. Indigo Prophecy's running into some problems with me taking some of the events seriously because of the poor graphics and animation.
