They were probably confused, and were thinking of Buzz Aldrin, as were the people answering Louis Armstrong instead of Neil Armstrong.


I'm pretty sure people do not really think a CG from a Pixar movie that came out a decade ago or whatever set foot on the moon in the 60s.
