What in the hell happened to my taste in music?

I used to listen to heavy metal and thrash speed like Megadeth and Slayer, etc. etc....now I find myself listening to goa trance stuff like "Swamp Thing" by Juno Reactor and "Mahadeva" by Astral Projection. Maybe I'm gay...

    I don't know what do you guys...thi--

You know what, nevermind. Anybody find themselves in a radical "change" in music like that? I feel really wierd now that I think about it...

        no

hey but, when you make a topic, think "man, is this going to be an interesting topic" and "what kind of responses are going to occur from my topic"

        if the answer is

"YEAH when I was 10 I listened to GRUNGE and then when I was 12 I listened to POP and then 14 I listened to HEAVY METAL and now I listen to ENYA"

you probably made a bad topic

Re: What in the hell happened to my taste in music?

Haha....no, in all seriousness it was simply a question and even making fun of myself a bit. I guess you didn't catch that part...

Edit: What I was getting at was...emphasis on "psychological stimuli triggers", that I was mulling over on what exactly springs that broadening on one's own horizons. I don't post topics like this one so as to entertain any one individual or myself, but actually to inquire other peoples thoughts on the how and why of it all... I am not looking for right answers, just other peoples thoughts and what changes in music they have had in their life.

I hope...that is a bit more clearer of what I was actually asking.

I don't really know what makes certain types of music suddenly sound appealing to me. like, I used to just not listen to bands with girl lead singers/girl pop musicians, but now they make up a sizeable portion of my collection. GO FIGGER :V

i think part of it has to do with getting laid.

because prior to that - i never would have considered listening to The Smiths or Cocteau Twins.

but post getting laid its all like...

Yeah...it's not all that strange for someone's taste in music to change. It's called progression and being open to new things.

One year when I was younger, I was listening to stuff like the Miami Vice soundtrack and the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack, and a few years later, after buying the soundtrack for Pretty in Pink, I was exclusively listening to the Smiths, New Order, etc.

Later, I went from "industrial" stuff like Ministry, Thrill Kill Kult, RevCo, etc, to stuff like Stereolab, Mazzy Star, Flying Saucer Attack and Nick Drake a few years later. For you who probably don't know these bands, Dallas, that's hard agressive stuff to for the most part slow melodic pop/folkish music.

And yeah, I tend to prefer female vocalists myself. Maazy Star, Low, and Stereolab are all in my top ten, and my favorite Velvet Underground album is the first one, which has Nico singing on a bunch of songs.

Re: What in the hell happened to my taste in music?

When I was a kid, I only listened to classic rock. I considered strictly electronic music to be sub-par. Now it makes up a large part of my music collection.

Perv, I tried to listen to stereolab. A friend had their discography. The music was okay, but I can't stand the lead singer and all the "lalalalalalalas" she says all the time. I don't mind girly sounding french techno, since I already listen to AIR, rinocerose, and LJDLP. But I just couldn't get into stereolab.

I used to exclusively listen to Death Metal and hated rap music.

Now I mostly just listen to hip hop! It's my favorite genre of music.

Lots of other stuff too of course.

I am not a very changing individual until the past year or so, so that's why it is kind of scary. I know it seems kind of ridiculous but I'm not like most people. And yeah, I know Ministry and TKK, I still listen to those two. But for a radical change lately, it's a different experience for me and never happened before.

                            And Highwind: I wouldn't know

Well, my ride is here so I'm off to court for now. I'll be back to talk about this some more if it is still somewhat alive. Later guys.
