    Is it just me or....(SMT-related)

...has anything with the Shin Megami Tensei name on it become the RPG equivalent of Guitar Hero?

I mean, I respect Atlus more than any other publisher out there, and I'll support them by purchasing usually 5-8 games they publish each year. But seriously, is anyone else getting the feeling that they're beginning to milk the SMT name?

Two years ago, you had 2 different versions of Persona 3. Last year, Persona 4 came out. This year, Devil Summoner 2 was released for the PS2, Devil Survivor just came out for the DS today, and a PSP port of the first Persona is on the way before the end of the year.

But I guess when people like me eat it up without question, they'll keep bringing them out.

Atlus has always milked SMT. It's its flagship franchise. It's just that up until SMTIII they hadn't bothered releasing them regularly in America.

      Recent Titles

      SMT III: Nocturne
SMT III: Nocturne MANIACS (Re-release in Japan, which is the version that us Yanks got)
      SMT: Digital Devil Saga
      SMT: Digital Devil Saga 2
      SMT: Persona 3
      SMT: Persona 3 FES
      SMT: Persona 4
      SMT: Devil Summoner
      SMT: Devil Summoner 2

All these games were released on the PS2. They all used the same engine (for the most part) and many of the assets were recycled.

      New Titles

      SMT: Persona for PSP
      SMT: Devil Survivor for DS

      What do you think?

Last time I checked, they were good games.

          This.

MegaTen has been milked in Japan for 20 years and it's been a top selling franchise the whole time. We're just now seeing the runoff.

It's good series, but god damn. Let's see them put something out on a next gen-system already.

Why, when they're making good profits off of last gen? Do you really wanna wait four years inbetween SMT games like a FF title?

If it means I don't ever have to see that same old Thor model ever again, then yes, by all means.

edit: Didn't they actually say Devil Summoner 2 is supposed to be the last ps2 megaten, anyway?

I must thank you, Perversion. This actually slipped my mind and I went out to buy it yesterday immediately after reading that. Anyway, now that I've read the rest of it, I'd say not really. Mora already said most of I was going to say so I'll just save you some time. As long as the games are well put together it isn't a big deal.
