My friend Jess and I got to work at the same time today. She and I both received texts from another coworker that said "I'm sorry, I'm really going to miss you." - so we were already freaking out.

Then the boss tells us, "When you two worked last, you both punched out at 8:55." The computer has its own separate clock that doesn't show up, so we go off the standard Subway clock on the wall. When we punched out it said 9:00, but apparently the computer was 8:55. I told the manager this and she said, "It's company policy."

You can at least collect unemployment (I think).

I'd be piiiiissed. Either way there are better jobs out there, probably better paying ones too!

BLAHHH, honestly?!?! Pretty sure that's illegal... you COULD fight that... check the surveillance camera that would show you guys waiting til the clock said 8.

While true, best of luck with him obtaining one! In many areas of the country, people with Master's degrees are having to settle with low-end fast food or retail jobs, usually paying minimum wage. I recently read an article about thgis being the case in St. Louis.

Even in TexASS, which has repeatedly had the lowest 'official' unemployment rate in the U.S.(hovering around 5-6% and often vieing with Louisiana or Oklahoma for this on a monthly basis), there is trouble in the job market. Most of the people who got laid off from where I work(having college degrees in technical fields at that) have not been able to find much more than restaraunt jobs, fast food jobs, or retail jobs hiring within 100 miles of where they used to work. At least where I am, crappy minimum wage jobs are still in supply(albeit not overly plentiful, but enough remain for someone without a high school diploma to have a chance of getting one of these jobs still, while this is not the case in the rest of the U.S.), but nothing else remains.

I might be getting my boss fired and in the process of whatever happens I'm going to either need to transfer locations or get a new job. Certain people there are gonna blacklist me for going through with it, and I don't want to deal with that.

Your situation is complete bull**** though, Adrian. I would enjoy the unemployment benefits in the meantime. Best part of it all is that it will end up costing the company more to pay for your unemployment than if she would have just kept you on. And it's all because of 5 minutes. You owe it to yourself to talk to corporate about it.

That sucks, and you're right. You were probably fired just so she could hire a friend or relative. Happened at the place I used to work, one of my friends was fired just so this **** could hire her friend. Hope you find a new job soon.

You could always fly down to Michigan and become Valkysas's personal assistant. Only thing is that you'd have to dress up like Misty from pokemon. And accept payments in the form of transformers action figures. But living expenses would be taken care of, since he has a spare G.I. Joe sleeping bag that you can sleep in. You would also have to tell his parents that you are in fact dating him, to clear up any sort of confusion.
