I've said it a million times, but I'll say it again, the only difference between liberals and conservatives is what they want to ban. It's like nobody gives a **** about choice and freedom.
And I know it's just a happy-meal toy, but this is symptomatic of a larger problem.
They mean well, but its misguided and silly to ban toys to make kids eat less unhealthy food. Fix the food, or if ambitious, the parents that are too lazy to cook.
While no one in this topic specifically stated anything to prove that they believed this ban was going into effect in the U.S., I wonder if some of the forum readers who didn't read this article thought just that!

Yeah guys read more carefully, this is in Brazil.
Though I wouldn't be surprised if someone came up with this idea here, given all the food police with there trans fat bans. Or the people who hate the fact that companies advertise to kids.
I don't like the idea behind it because the people doing the bans should be the parents. It's the same thing that makes me facepalm everytime I hear some activist whine about junk food and toys being advertised to kids. And just how are the young kids getting this stuff, hmm? Let's take a 6 year old kid. He doesn't have a job, probably doesn't even have an allowance, or any way of getting money on his own. Even if he did for some strange reason, can anyone seriously picture this kid going down to a store or McDonald's on his own and buying the stuff? Kids who are too young to be getting the stuff on their own are having it provided to them by the parent's and it is the fault of those parents when the kid gets too fat from eating too much McDonald's or cookies. Of course these kids are exposed to too much advertising because the parents are using TV the babysitter again, which is why the kids are also developing ADD.
"So what's the larger problem here? I gotta hear this."
You know, people thinking they can tell other people what they can and can't do.
It's a freedom thing.
My social views are very much in line with libertarians (though I have enough differences with them to not call myself one) if that helps you understand where I'm coming from.
For instance, I believe prostitution, drugs, suicide and guns should all be legal. I'm not really for banning anything other than what I call the "big two":
2. Don't thieve from others (should be considered a blanket statement about respect of others' property; includes vandalism, theft, embezzlement, etc.).
This happy meal toy thing is unnecessary and invasive.
