    FF12 in a nutshell anyone?

I was intrigued by the story but I couldn't bare playing FF12 cuz it was boring (I didn't feel like I was playing the game). Anyone know where all the custscenes are so I can get a general idea of the story arc? Thanks.

I'll save you the trouble of boring scenes and spell it out. I'm still familiar with it.

Vaan is a kid whose brother Recks was killed in a war 2 years ago. He and his orphan friends, including Penelo, now do odd jobs around the streets of Rabanastre, and then some. Rabanastre lies in Dalmasca, which was just taken over by the empire Archades, and has sent the Emporer's son Vayne to be the new governer of the city. They're to hold a banquet in his honor. Vaan wants in on it to get some phat lewt.

Against Penelo's wishes, he sneaks in. Steals a big ol' jewel. But then he's caught in the act by a pair of Sky Pirates, Balthier and his bunny mistress Fran. They drag him along on their escape.

Unbeknownst to them, the Rabanastre Resistance makes a move to attack the banquet. Unbeknownst to the resistance, the Empire knew they were coming. A battle starts complete with airships overhead. Fran does amazing-super-cool bike maneuvers but crashes instead. They escape on foot through the waterway. They also meet Princess Ashe, but she pretends not to be royalty.

Only, they get caught. Then thrown in jail. They escape jail, and meet Basche. Vaan hates Basche because he's supposedly the one who killed Reks, and Dalmasca's king. Balthier's too cool for revenge, and lets him join them on their escape. And they do.

Back in Rabanastre, turns out Penelo was taken hostage by bounty hunters wanting Balthier. Vaan has no choice but to save her. Balthier and Fran bemoan their bad luck.

    They save her. Hurrah.

Vaan goes around the streets of Bhujerba yelling, "I'm Captain Bash Von Rotsenburg of Dalmasca!" like a little prude. He gets the resistance's attention. They speak with Marquis Elmdore, the prick who's been narrating the story. The Marquis turns them in to the Empire, that prick.

On the empire's airship, they meet Ashe. Turns out she's a princess (who knew). She also hates Basche. They make a grand escape from the airship.

Now begins the Ultimate Fetch Quest. I needn't bore you with the details. What's important is that Ashe figures out that she has to obtain power through Nethicite in order to save her kingdom. She's not sure if she should take revenge or practice forgiveness. She also keeps seeing visions of her dead boyfriend. How poetic.

It also turns out that Basche didn't kill the King, it was his twin brother, who happens to be a Judge of the Empire. All is forgiven. We also find out that Fran was banished for leaving her boring McBoringville home in the woods.

Meanwhile, there's another Empire to the southwest that wants to fight Archadia. Plans are being set in motion and a war seems like it's about to start, with Dalmasca caught in the middle. Nobody wants it to happen, except Archades, of course.

Eventually, the Ultimate Fetch Quest has them obtain the Sword of Kings, which can cut Nethicite, and the Dawn Shard, Ashe's claim to stardom. They go to Giruvegan, an ancient technologically advanced abandoned city of "the gods". They meet the gods. Turns out they're magical immortal beings who think they can rule the world of man. Because they're magical. And immortal. They want Ashe to be the new Dynast-King, their right hand, so to speak. They give her another useless sword.

They go to a gigantic lighthouse a million miles away. It's a big mother ****ing light house. It's. ****ing. huge. It takes forever to climb. A long, long long long long time.

At the top, they fight Cid, who happens to be Balthier's loony scientist dad. Cid has been conversing with Venat, a rogue immortal who wants to 'help' humanity. She does this by giving Vayne the means to blow everyone up. Realizing the entire truth, Ashe concludes that she does not wish to be controlled by cowardly magical beings, and makes up her mind to set things right and stop the war.

Cid dies in the tearful confrontation. Bashe's twin brother also shows up, also dies. A huge explosion of magic occurs, but everyone else makes it out in time.

The explosion of magic was strong enough to power the Bahamut, a gigantic tornado machine airship. Vayne now sits on top of Bahamut. It's up to our plucky heroes to break their way in and stop Vayne.

They do. Everyone's happy. Ashe becomes Queen. Basche becomes a Judge of Archades. Fran and Balthier do their sky pirate thing. Vaan continues to dream of one day being a sky pirate. The end.

Oh, and Penelo continues to be... Penelo.... (who cares)

You did a pretty good job summarizing the story, but forgot to mention Larsa, AL-Cid, and Reddas, some of the coolest characters in the game! Blastphemer!

Actually, I'm still not quite sure if Larsa is really a guy...With that voice and hair, it's hard to tell. Hmm...same goes for Vayne. Maybe all of the FF protagonists are related. I can definately see Seymour and Vayne at some christmas family reunion together, drinking rum and crying over their failures.

Go to /v/ on 4chan and post a topic with a picture of Larsa. Wait 5 minutes and hit F5. Be prepared to see over a gigabyte of shota.

It's pretty much canon that Nomura bases all of his protagonists off this guy.

Speaking of Final Fantasy protagonists, is there a central 'bad guy' that's been revealed for FF13 yet? If there is, and he's not effeminate, I'm pretty sure they won't be able to top Sephiroth.

                    Nomura didn't character design FFXII.
