    Jack Kilby; Deceased

It's probably a little late for this, but Jack Kilby, the inventor of the integrated circuit, which made the microprocessor possible, succumbed to cancer a few days ago at the age of 81. He was a techno-pioneer; one of those responsible for ushering in the modern age of electronics. He will be missed.

      Me either.

But that's cool. I mean about the integrated circuit, not the cancer.

So few realize the importance of his contributions... Without the IC, we'd still be stuck in the 1940s as far as technology is concerned. On an even wierder note, there might be gigantic mechanical computers in the military today based on Charles Babbage's difference machine, but maintainance would be a real chore!
