It's rare to get an RPG that's not set in
A) Generic elves-in-leather-jerkins Tolkien Land
B) Magic infused science fiction anime-verse
or
C) Generic humans vs. aliens sci-fi
Look at this guy's chest carpet and lip caterpillar. ****ing MANLY.
So whenever something new like the steampunk Arcanum, horror-verse System Shock, and cyberpunk Deus Ex comes out I mess my pants. Enter Alpha Protocol, the only game shown at E3 I'm actually excited about.
You can be Sam Fisher
You play as a generic spy doing generic spy things but Obsidian (made up of former Black Isle members) thought that was boring so they made it as over-the-top as possible. Expect all the spy tropes from James Bond, Bourne, and 24 mashed into a stealth/action game.
You can be Jason Bourne
Like all open choice RPG's you can approach the mission objectives any way you want. Sneak by enemies, bribe them, sabotage to lure people out, or just go in shooting. The dialog system looks really cool because instead of standing around for 5 minutes trying to think of the best options to pick you just choose a generic "attitude" which influences what happens during the cinema. Like in Farenheit you have only as long as the current conversation lasts to choose an option giving the dialog a smooth cinematic feel.
You can be Jack Bauer
Devs have promised tons of replayability, customized equipment, and you can change your main characters appearance so he doesn't have to be a generic white guy. This game comes out in effing october of this year for pee see, ps triple, and xbawks.
Awesome gameplay footage
Animations and AI look kind of rough so I've got my fingers crossed they use the next 4 months to whip everything together. I'm pumped. Who else is pumped?
EDIT: okay everything publicly shown is based off the alpha so i can rest easy hoping the final build won't look as clunky
