I hate my ps2 (or Jvr's plight and quest to play a 9 year old game)

I just received a new, still wrapped, PSX game today and while it works fine on my brother's PS2, my PS2 is an entirely different story.

The game loads slowly (even with the driver set to fast) and with these horrible hissing sounds.

With the game being new I was able to see what the scratch damage done was.

Though most of the few scratches are only surface and superficial, there are a few worry spots. I'll try and load it again when I have the chance...

My PS2 was purchased in December 2002. My brother's 13 months later. Both are in near identical shape and it's just ****ing me off.

Bah, I spent more time trying to load the damn thing, whinning, and complaining, than I actually did play the game.

Oh well, I'll just have to pull out my PSX out from god knows where.

my sister had the same problem.. If you open it up and clean it with a cutip it should work again.

Yeah, if it's making hissing sounds, then maybe there's a lot of dust in it. Check the fan on the side, see if the grate is clogged. If it's not, then there might be a lot of dust inside.

oh, my sister told me something.. She told me that you had to clean the lens and sometimes you have to click the white gear thingy.

Yea, I've heard about that before.

I'm a little hesisitant to actually open up my PS2.

Hey, my PSX woes just get better!

I ordered RE2 and it was the new, slim, 2 disc jewel case. Too bad the seller didn't notice and only sent me 1 disc.

What a ****head.

Oh well.

Yeah, opening it up and messing around with the white gear fixed all my PS2 problems. Havent had any problems since I had to fix it, and that was nearly 6 months ago.

just remember how many clicks you turn it, so you can turn it back to the original position if you have to.

Check the back of your PS2 for the serial number. If the begining of the serial starts with "PT", then you have yourself the first model of PS2. The only problems with Playstation 2 I've encountered have been on this model only. If your PS2 serial starts with "PX" then you have yourself one of the models that came out 2 1/2 years after the original. These are significantly quietier and seem to load games from the browser much more quickly. If you have one of these and your game isn't working, then I'd say you're just an unlucky bastard and will likely be struck by lightning multiple times within your short lifespan...

I opened the PS2 up and cleaned the lens with a q-tip for now.

(I had to open it regardless because SOMEONE got a little frustrated and shoved the disc drive door in, jamming it )

Cleaning the lens seemed to do the trick.

My ps2 ran RE Director's Cut perfectly and just as good as my brother's had earlier. It did however freeze once I got back from the guardhouse but I doubt it was connected to any of the previous issues Ive been having with the game and my ps2. It just seemed like bad luck and timing. A plan 'ole game freeze.

I do plan on opening it back up again (all the screws are still off) and tinkering with the white gear cog though Im in no rush as my RE-DC copy seems to be working as of now.

Na, I rather get my tutorials online instead of paying $9.95 for some book which is probably comprised of all those before mentioned tutorials.
