I used to smoke about a pack and a half a day and I've been able to cut down to like 6 smokes a day but I just can't seem to make more progress past that amount. I don't know about the nicotine gum, works for some people and others say it's all BS. Any ex-smokers here have any advice?

Re: I'm trying to quit smoking...
If you succeed, let me know how you did it. I've cut way back also, but I just can't seem to quit 100%.
It's gotten way too expensive to smoke anyway. It's insane. I've started buying tobacco in a can, with a box of tubes. I roll my own, and it's about 1/3 the price.
...and it's STILL too expensive.

Re: I'm trying to quit smoking...
I had a friend who cut down to 2 cigarettes a day, down from like a pack, by just not having as many on him during the day. He found that by only having that many on him it made it easier to make them last.
I don't have any first hand experience with such addictions, so I can't help any more than that.stodi no na ka cenba

Re: I'm trying to quit smoking...
I went broke.
That helped a ton.
But I would still have a few smokes whenever I drank. Just feels good.
Then a year later I got the job at the pawn shop. Got so bored I picked up smoking again for about two months.
But the kind of regular customer I deal with smells like a wet dog that smokes 9 packs a day. And that was enough to turn me off from smoking for good
Though when I am stressed or drinking I still crave one from time to time, but really I think I have it under control now.Last edited by Biggie; 06-10-2009, 02:30 AM.

Re: I'm trying to quit smoking...
I don't think it's necessary to stop completely smoking, you just really need to control it. Such as, find what makes you want to smoke and perhaps stop doing that. Or if that seems silly to you only smoke when others have cigarettes and buy one off of them. That way you will spend less money (probably more per cigarette though) and you will only be able to smoke when others have cigarettes available.
I smoke on occasion but oddly enough I have never had a "craving," i think its been like two months since I last had a cigarette and I don't want one, even if I did smoke one today I probably still wouldn't want one for a long time. But that's just me.

Re: I'm trying to quit smoking...
I've only had maybe 5 cigarettes in the past month, and that was at work last weekend.
I've not been buying. My motivation to quit is that it makes exercise harder on me than it should be, primarily. I keep getting the urge to go to the gas station and buy a pack of smoke, but I keep resisting.

Re: I'm trying to quit smoking...
Sunflower seeds seem to be the most effective(Did I pick the right one?) thing to stop smoking amongst all my friends. Just keep a bag around and pop some seeds in your mouth every time you feel the urge to smoke. At about 400 seeds for 50 cents it's a much cheaper alternative to gum and lollipops or whatever else you use to satiate the oral fixation. I've had 4 friends quit successfully with Sunflower seeds.
