They won't want their money back until we're back on our feet again, otherwise it hurts them just as much. You want your friend to get a job and do well, or else yer not getting your money back.

Re: The coming collapse of the USD
its right on the mark and an early prediction too. for the usd to right itself there has to be a recession. after that then they switch from spending to producing.
what i like is the different way at looking at spending. its not that other countries cant afford certain amenities, but that some countries are consuming too much that the others cant get enough which doesnt always work.

The economy is always a perky topic nowadays. The ironic thing (relative to the subject) is that my industry needs gas prices to go up for turn-arounds to pick back up again. So anyways? How bout them Chargers?------------

Re: The coming collapse of the USD
I've been predicting this collapse and hyperinflation for eight months now, and so far I've been proven wrong nearly every day.
I've learned that this nation can buoy itself, at least partially, on hope that things will get better. As long as that hope remains, people will still value the USD on the hopes that it will be able to buy enough goods, services, or foreign currency sometime in the near future.
With some objective indexes looking better than they did in March, and with consumer confidence on the climb, I'm actually not worried about any "death spiral" scenario in the coming year.
However, if our government continues to "print" money and/or incur debt at the rate that it has been, I can't fathom any way that the US Dollar avoids crashing. If I see inflation hit 15% or so, I'm immediately going to take half my money out of my bank account and stock portfolio, and invest it in any good or commodity I can store--because once 15% or 20% hits, there's no turning back.

Re: The coming collapse of the USD
When you consider that the CPI has neglected to factor in the cost of food, housing, and energy for quite some time, we have actually been at that inflation level multiple times.Originally posted by Wavelength View PostIf I see inflation hit 15% or so, I'm immediately going to take half my money out of my bank account and stock portfolio, and invest it in any good or commodity I can store--because once 15% or 20% hits, there's no turning back.
So long as the government has imaginary money to throw at the stock market(as has been done for years now), business as usual will continue. Business as usual will not and cannot continue forever, and many 'optimists' don't acknowledge physical limitations to growth.
The USD will collapse soon; whether it is in 3 months or 3 years is hard to say.
