    I Finally Beat Chrono Trigger

    ...Yeah.

I had this game back in my teen years, and my save file got erased because the cartridge batteries wouldn't stay charged. Rather than start over, I gave up on it.

Later on, I bought the PSX version and played that for a while when it came out. I came to the conclusion that for some reason, Chrono Trigger just could not hold my attention. I would play it, get a little bit into it, get bored of it, and then come back to it and start over again because I forgot what was going on. This cycle continued for many years.

I bought the NDS version when it came out, and I have to say it is easily the best conversion yet, but it still couldn't hold my attention. I gave up on the NDS game several times. Last weekend, I pushed myself hard and I beat it. The long cycle is over.

I don't really understand this, though. Chrono Trigger is a great game. It has great characters, a really cool gameplay gimmick, and a decent story. There is nothing wrong with the game at all, but it just bores me to tears. I am not saying I didn't have fun with it, but there were some points during the game I would get to a new dungeon and say to myself "screw this" and I wouldn't touch it for weeks. Maybe I am spoiled by Final Fantasy VI? I beat that game beginning to end over ten times and I probably will again very soon. For some reason Chrono Trigger is just not as fun as FFVI, and in some places is really boring I guess. Yet it is a wonderful well crafted game. I don't get it!!!

I haven't even touched New Game + yet. I don't know if I will. I imagine some day I will dust it off and play it again. I just can't imagine me actually being able to go through the entire story again.

Sure, you beat it, but which ending did you get? Theres like 10 different endings I think. Somebody even talks in one of them. I forget who.

There is a point in Chrono Trigger where you can go wherever you want and do stuff. And it doesn't really push you to do anything in particular. And you have to clunk around between times. And I stop playing.

      I guess I'm a turd.

I got the first ending, the same one I am assuming everyone gets the first time before enabling new game +. I could be wrong but I don't think you can get the other endings until after you've beaten the game.

no, you can get lots of endings the first time through. so "first ending" really doesnt mean anything unless you're referring to it's placement in the ending gallery menu thing.

I'm playing Chrono Trigger right now on the DS for my second time. Seems like a pretty stellar experience to me.

I remember playing Chrono Trigger in my early years and having nightmares about Lavos! Good times...

Well, there's at least two that I can remember that you can get on the first playthrough, one is where you use the Epoch to go to 1999 and fight Lavos, and then there's getting to Lavos from the Black Omen, or the bucket at the End of Time...

I never did get all of the endings, so I'm not the expert.

I think there was also an ending I got where *** SPOILERS ***
back in the dinosaur time i did something where it was like a twilight zone ending and Chrono woke up in bed like at the begining of the game and everybody in the world became dinosaur people. Was it all a dream?!

I've heard a lot of praise about this game for years, yet I've never played it. Is it really as good or "Epic" as these kids are saying nowadays?

For its time it was the best thing ever. Though it's aged, it's still pretty rockin'. If you can get it for DS it makes for a sweet handheld RPG.
                      ...and that's why.

I don't have a DS at the moment. But seeing how they aren't practically extinct yet, I might consider getting it.
