...Yeah.
I had this game back in my teen years, and my save file got erased because the cartridge batteries wouldn't stay charged. Rather than start over, I gave up on it.
Later on, I bought the PSX version and played that for a while when it came out. I came to the conclusion that for some reason, Chrono Trigger just could not hold my attention. I would play it, get a little bit into it, get bored of it, and then come back to it and start over again because I forgot what was going on. This cycle continued for many years.
I bought the NDS version when it came out, and I have to say it is easily the best conversion yet, but it still couldn't hold my attention. I gave up on the NDS game several times. Last weekend, I pushed myself hard and I beat it. The long cycle is over.
I don't really understand this, though. Chrono Trigger is a great game. It has great characters, a really cool gameplay gimmick, and a decent story. There is nothing wrong with the game at all, but it just bores me to tears. I am not saying I didn't have fun with it, but there were some points during the game I would get to a new dungeon and say to myself "screw this" and I wouldn't touch it for weeks. Maybe I am spoiled by Final Fantasy VI? I beat that game beginning to end over ten times and I probably will again very soon. For some reason Chrono Trigger is just not as fun as FFVI, and in some places is really boring I guess. Yet it is a wonderful well crafted game. I don't get it!!!
I haven't even touched New Game + yet. I don't know if I will. I imagine some day I will dust it off and play it again. I just can't imagine me actually being able to go through the entire story again.
