favorite album of the year so far?

the year's have over, yeah, already. I've already heard a lot of really good records that've come out this year and I'm already dreading making an end of list for the year. I was wondering, because most of you people are enigmas to me when it comes to music taste, what have you all found to be your favorite album released so far this year and why?

    here's mine:

it's great pop music. it's so endlessly catchy and fun to listen to. plus, I met them all when they played in Atlanta and they're all really nice, and that goes a long way for me. but really, it's such a good album. I could be lame and pull out the My Bloody Valentine comparisons, but I won't.

so what are you all finding to be your favorite album so far this year?

My favorite album of the year is not a music album but rather a Hip-Hop album. And it's not even a full length, it's an EP.

Brother Ali - The Truth Is Here EP.

He's coming out with a full length before the year is out so hopefully I'll have a new favorite come new years. Then again, The Undisputed Truth was delayed several months, so who knows...

I hear Reel Big Fish put out a cover-album this year, but I was so disappointed in Monkeys For Nothing & Chimps For Free that I didn't even check it out.

Erm...I'm sure some people might take offense to that portion of your statement.

        So, hip-hop isn't music?

I haven't listened to many albums this year, and I've also stopped listening to the radio. However, if you had my opinion, my favorite album this year is "Relapse," something I've been pushing down this site's throat for damn near 7 months.

A much stronger album than Encore, versatile wordplay, and some of the most infectious Dr. Dre beats ever conceived.

I'm not hip on what the kids listen to today, with your Dan Fogelberg, hula hoops, zima and your pac man video games...

I haven't bought/pirated any new CDs this year, but so far I'm really diggin' on this band right here. Camera Obscura.

Let's Get Out of this Country had one good song on it, so I've never cared enough to check out another album of theres.

I don't really keep track of albums that have come out and stuff, but the best album I've listened to for the first time this year is probably Hell's Winter by Cage.

I don't get why Fever Ray needs to exist. it sounds just like the Knife. it's a good album, I just don't get why they didn't call it Fever Ray by the Knife.

Fever Ray is a solo project from the sister. It's much more subdued, and downright sad at times than the Knife. I think it's more consistent and polished than the Knife as well.

The Knife's albums always have a couple songs that are grating. Fever Ray avoids that.

Basically they're her songs and not her and her brother's songs.

It's better than Monkeys for Nothing. Not amazing, but worth purchasing in my opinion.

I'm just hoping the first CD of 99 Songs of Revolution comes out this year.

I actually prefer Hip-Hop to music if that helps.

The analogy I always use is Opera/Play. They are two different artforms: one of them is sung, and the other is spoken. Neither is inherently better than the other, they are just distinct artforms.
