So, has anyone tried the demo yet?

I want to hear opinions.

I tried it. Controls nice. Looks pretty. Didn't fully understand part of the karma system. I did appear to be fully Good, got the train to safety. Then the next mission, all I did was touch one spot on my radar and suddenly I was Evil. o_O

coming from a person who hates free roam action games, it's far from typical.

best way to describe it is crackdown with actual variety and that's what sets this game apart from every other sandbox game. the mission designs have variety whether you're escorting a train or sneaking across rooftops while tailing someone. the powers are also varied with multiple upgrades for them depending on how good/evil you are. the combat and controls are excellent and while i think the enemies' accuracy is ridiculous (seriously, these guys can ping you from 500 yards away with an automatic weapon) they're generally pretty smart and tough to beat especially the conduits which are these super powered guys that warp around and tear the ground up with ridiculous electric attacks.

gamestop leaked the game and the people playing it say it's really, really long. the story missions are varied and cool and the side missions are cool as well (plus you have your arbitrary collectible objects for people who like finding random crap).

my only complaint about the game is the subpar art direction. the graphics themselves are good but UGH how many more shaved head heroes and drab cityscapes must we see in the future?

Gou, it is only like that for the demo, so you can see some of the differences between playstyles for the missions. It wont be like that in the final game.

That kinda threw me off too.

I've played the demo multiple times and will probably play it again once or twice before tuesday. I love the game, yeah, the art style needs a little work, but if that is my only complaint with the game (which for me, isnt much of a complaint), then i can live with it.

I think my biggest complaint is that when the game was first announced they said you were going to have elemental powers, so i was assuming you would have a choice, and i was disappointed when i found out that it would be electricity only, but after playing the game, i have no doubts that it will be fun, and it has been getting some extremly good reviews, with a couple of so-so ones mixed in there to keep us PS3 fans grounded. Cause of course, Edge cant give Uncharted or MGS4 anything higher than 8, so i wouldnt have expected Infamous to get anything higher, and it got a 7.

Anyway...everyone with a PS3 really should try the game.

i like how the health system works. i don't care much for regenerating health but you can literally give yourself a "boost" by zapping the energy from any electric device nearby.

it's neat zipping down power lines, sucking the juice from a light post, watching it slowly die out, pushing a car to crush a bunch of badguys, then healing the poor saps you accidentally crushed.

Red Dragon

It plays a lot like Assassin's Creed, only you don't need to hold 5 buttons to swing from a ledge.

Seems like a solid game, but I am not really sold on it. I tried free-roaming and was getting sniped by all sides. I am guessing that's for the demo to force people to move on instead of, y'know, having fun with the game. It's really annoying having to dodge bullets every second just for walking down a street.

As Duel said, it's not somthing I am going to rush out and buy, but it does seem like a decent game.

Are you talking about the demo or the full game? Cause i'll hate you if you have the full game.

Also, they arent completely cleared out of an area, you will find enemies in the cleared out areas, just nowhere near as many.

So, i got home, and started playing around 6pm, not including about a 15 minute break to eat, i didnt quit playing until just after Midnight last night...

I havent had a marathon gaming session like that since The Force Unleashed, and i am IMPATIENTLY waiting for the work day to be over so that i can get home and play some more (after i pick up my Cross Edge preorder).

The game is just so much fun, i spent so much time exploring, looking for blast shards and dead drops that i almost forgot about the story. And the enemies, even on the medium setting, are pretty smart. Many times they will hide behind things, change their positions, so you cant hide and target them when they pop out, they will charge, and if you are in melee range, they will run to get out of melee range, all the while shooting you.

I love the powers, although i cant grind or do the floating thing yet.

Best PS3 game since...Killzone 2.

ARGH, i cant wait for the weekend...although at this rate i'll be finished with the game by then, or pretty close.

I got it. Enjoying it.

Anyone else get promoted to Hard difficulty in the game's opening moments?

Jeroak Nelave
05-28-2009, 01:58 AM
Yeah, i did, but i switched it down to medium because i knew hard would be too much on my first play through. Right now my death ratio is low, but just high enough to know that i'd be dying alot more on Hard.

I've almost completed the first island, and got the grind ability, and think i get the sniper ability next.

Now Jeroak, you probably already know my feelings on the PS3, in that in most cases, I ALMOST out-Jeroak you. But I feel the need to make the following comments.

Best PS3 game since...Killzone 2.

That's really not saying that much.

Also, I already own Crackdown on the 360, and in the year plus since I've owned it, have only played it for a total of about half an hour. So realistically, is there any reason I would even WANT to think about purchasing this?

10times better than Crackdown. Try the demo, the game is very very cool. I have stopped trying to persuade people to like something. I dont care if you buy it, all i know is that i love it, and this is one of those games that i think i will finish very quickly, and in few sittings because i'm so addicted, like i did with Ratchet, Assassins Creed, The Force Unleashed, and Killzone 2.

I saw that today and thought it was hilarious! It is kinda funny that he cant do anything with chain link fences, but it doesnt bother me much at all, as chain link fences dont really lead to much of anything useful, and i guess they could just use the excuse that he causes the fences to melt because his body reacts to the metal, or something like that, but i just got done playing for the night, and all i gotta say is " Oh hell yes!" (and this is not my quote, but if you have played far enough into the game, you know where that comes from)

I don't know about you, I can never shockwave through Chain fences, heck in the second part of the game half the walls are chain-link fences.

Anyhow, despite better judgement, I got this game yesterday and beat it today with the good ending and almost all the side-quests done.

There seems to be a lot of clipping issues though, one time I got blasted through the wall and floated underneath the map, then drowned somhow. Other times I clip right through ledges that I am trying to grab on. this causes so much aggravation, I just want to slam my head against a wall.

It's kinda odd. I can't say whether or not I enjoyed the game. Going through a second time Evil and not bothering with the non-evil sidequests. It's fun blowing things up.

inFamous was revealed at E3 07 (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/803/803511p1.html) in July. It had been in development for 18 months (http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/infamous/news.html?sid=6175383) by that time. Prototype debuted in the August 07 issue of Game Informer (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/809/809259p1.html) which released in July. So they were shown to the world at pretty much the same time.

Beat the game as a ****ing pansy and now going for the badass. When I first started playing the game I had the feeling that this was going to get old quick. Nope, thank God. While it does repeat several of the same missions it also has a plethora of different missions. Even the ones that are repeated bring about a new challenge (except for that one where you destroy surveilance equipment, which was a bad idea.) The super powers you get goes from neat to holy ****ing **** that was awesome. Never thought that something like controlling a lighting bolt would be so cool. Wish you could get that one earlier, but I'll live. There are some negative aspects of the game, though. The facial animations are horrible and choppy. It looks like they are unchinging their jaws half the time. They also have a couple of missions that require you to blast flying devises out of the sky. While that sounds pretty cool, it just was rather boring and frustrating. Other than that and the occasional cliche, I can't think of anything bad to say about the game... well, quite a few times I wonder how the hell the game got a teen rating, but that doesn't count.

Well I like Ultimate Alliance, it's a comic-nerd's gem, especially with the DLC :). My point was that inFamous should make a nice change of pace from the old-school RPG beat-em-up that is MUA, to a fast paced adventure where your every choice has rewards and consequences. This also isn't the only game that makes me wish I had a PS3 beside my Xbox360 :happy

I also heard that the main character can't use guns (he would cause the bullets in the gun to explode?)

There is one part of the game that appearantly it doesn't matter what you choose, you get the same outcome. Though, the choice does effected your karma and all. It is the first mission on the last island.

MAJOR
No matter how you choose Trish dies. However, it has more of an impact emotionally if you are a good guy and choose the selfish choice. In your desire to save the one you love you actually condemn her. The Trish you went to save wasn't her and she was actually with the doctors you decided not to save. That kind of choked me up.

Around 400 last time I checked.

As for attacks you get a slew of different ones that you can level up. It's not really that Dynamic, but it's nice to see.

I kind of wish there was a "neutral" way to play this game, not too bad, not too good. Sure you couldn't level up your skills, but that would be the fun of it :p

You've got that backwards, sir. It's inFAMOUS.

As for the guy from Texas with the Texas name, you COULD try to play Sacred 2 if you're looking for a really good open world hack and slash/action RPG. It's fantasy, not comic book style, though, but it has decently deep character customization (if that's your thing...and it IS mine), and the gameworld is probably somewhere between Oblivion and Morrowind (closer to Morrowind, though) in terms of size. I have the PS3 version, but it IS out for the 360.

Sorry to sidetrack the topic. I'm not planning on getting inFAMOUS any time soon. I'm sure it's great, but it would be one of those games I'd play for about an hour, and then go back to playing Sacred 2 and Class of Heroes (on PSP). Not really my style. Although, Uncharted 2 is not my style either, but the E3 thing ALMOST makes me want to buy it when it comes out. Damn, did that game look good.

I kept slinging grenades at it and it seemed to be indestructible, so I just forgot about trying to blow up the truck and went for the gunner. At least that's what Marcman told me to do.

Just put the game down and put in a Japanese RPG, silly!

Not grenades though, just spam the normal Zap.

I had fun just PLAYING it, yeah. That's why I blame the missions more than the gameplay itself~

But in any game that has any semblance of a story, aren't missions inherently tied TO the gameplay?

I mean, yeah, in games like GTA (as an example), you CAN just run around acting like an idiot and not doing anything productive (in a storyline sense), but that gets old pretty quickly. In my estimation, any type of linearity (even in an "open world" game), and this includes missions, is tied pretty heavily to gameplay. Gameplay=how you play a game in order to complete it.

Mora just sucks at any form of aiming with a controller. :I

Maybe I'm too harsh. He did clear Gears of War on Casual.

Wow...just wow. Yes, there were times i died during the demo, but HELL, they give you HINTS as to what to do for the protecting the supplies mission in the demo, or did you NOT listen to Zeke practically TELL you what to do (use shockwave on the turret to kill or knock the enemy away).

And yes, it CAN be difficult to hit enemies while on a moving train, but it really ISNT that difficult.

Jeez, it just made sense to me that grenades would be more powerful than the normal attack {:o

Yes, Mora, it does seem more practical to take the truck out with grenades, but for whatever reason, it doesn't work too well. While the game is fun as hell, I noticed a few other problems. One I learned quickly when I started playing was that cover doesn't seem to be all that helpful. Sure, you don't get hit as much, but they still have the ability to blast you otherwhise. Also, when you beat the game they let you continue to play from there. This doesn't seems so bad at first... that is until you realize that there is nothing more for you to do other than mundane tasks like getting all 350 blast shards. I know the amount because it starts telling you once you collect so many. I have 340...

And yes, it CAN be difficult to hit enemies while on a moving train, but it really ISNT that difficult.
Yes it is. :(

Disagreed. The shooting from the top of a train was one of the easier aspects of the demo. =V

It was fairly easy, but the reticle they give you is pretty small.

It's more like number of shots over time.

If you have a faster trigger finger you can let lose 20 Zaps for every 5 grenades you pop out. Because the trucks aren't moving around it's better to use Zap. Plus the grenades bounce off of the truck and can detonate in an area the truck isn't. If I recall they don't stick onto the truck like they do enemies.

Zap is one of the best attacks in the game one on one. You get other things for crowd control or taking out multiple foes, like grenades.

I just used Grenades on the train, held the "energy absorb" button time to time and got it all back.

If you're talking about the demo missions then you have infamous status when you're doing the truck mission. Instead of sticky grenades you have cluster grenades so lob a grenade in front of the truck's path and maybe one towards the gunner and you'll destroy it instantly.

Mora's posted links on several occasions here and elsewhere.
