I made this identical thread about a year ago, and came to find out that if you enter the code 60507 (one digit away from my zip code, as it happens), you will contribute to the Pavilion team.
I'm currently the only one contributing in any way, so join and help the cause, Mr. Rex.
You get done playing games on the PS3, you set folding@home to run for a set period (4 hours, until completion of current project, etc), then you play 360 or watch TV or go to sleep or whatever.
I've actually been slacking lately. I used to run it every night as I slept, and it would turn the PS3 off at between 7 and 9 in the morning.
If you sit there watching it make little squiggly protein folds, YOU'RE DOING IT ALL WRONG!!! Plus you can set playlists of music on your PS3's HDD for it to play while it does its thing...perfect for falling asleep, and putting my TV and receiver with an hour or so sleep timer.
Yeah...I'm just not too fond of leaving my console on all night unless I'm downloading stuff. Least with the 360 it shuts off automatically after everything is done.
No, no. There's an option for auto shut-off after x amount of hours, or when the current project is done. If it's extra-long, I'll usually do half of it in one night, but if it's around six hours, I'll just let it do its thing until it's done, at which point, it turns my PS3 off automatically.
Is it a smart use of power to leave it on like that? I mean, I'd leave the PS3 on all the time if it didn't seem wasteful and another excuse for the PS3 to overheat.
