Simple Question

OKay, I might just be dumb or missing something, but I swore you could walk behind some of the graphics when making a dungeon.

You know those pillar objects made of wood, bricks, ice , ect? I thought, once you place them down, you could walk behind the topmost graphic square of the pillar...I looked all in the manual , but couldn't find anything. Do I have some kind of false-created memory or somethin?
