    Recycling Character fights.

Have you ever wanted to use the same NPC to battle the party but couldn't figure out how? Well, there's an easy way to do it!

Let's say you want "the lizardman" to battle at least twice. Well, here's what you do:

Create Lizardman's stats. Create the battle coding for the battle. Now, factor in what point in the game he's encountered again so that you know the stat levels of the party by the time he's fought again. When it comes time to battle Lizardman, use coding to switch Lizardman into the party. Now, modify his stats to a level that satisfies you. Don't try to increase his experience of Level, because that'll give it away. When you're done, switch Lizardman out of the party. Congratulations! You've save yourself the trouble of spending 1 character, 1 job and 0.6% of the gamespace.

As an added bonus, when Lizardman joins the party, you can change his name, which creates the illusion that he's a "new" enemy.

    That's actually really, really cool.

    I'm p***** I didn't think of it myself.

It's an old standby in games, the whole 'I defeated you so you join me only as a spy and then you betray me and I have to fight you again ONLY AFTER I LEVEL YOU UP LIKE HELL OMG OW' thing, but people who want to recycle an NPC character for a character battle wouldn't necessarily have to use it that way to get the same results.

For instance, you could easily have 2 different members of the lizardman race simply by using the 'change character name' event code twice: once right after he leaves but before you encounter him in battle, and once right after that battle but before he rejoins, to change back to his old name. The effect would be that you had just fought a different lizardman. And it's purely coincidental that your ally lizardman just HAPPENED to be gone when you battle him every time... and that the enemy lizardman just HAPPENS to be wearing the exact same equipment your ally one left with... somehow.

Thanks, Obi. Sorry to **** you off.

Say, out of curiosity, where did you get that Omega sign?

Yeah, this is a very neat idea!

I do doubt the 0.6% DU save, though--I think those particular numbers in the DU thread are too high.

Yeah, in order to fine-tune those numbers I'd have to experiment with a much larger base to start with, and I'm just not up to it right now.

I just wish a similar trick was possible for monsters.

Say, can this get added to the "tricks to spice up your game" list?
