I absolutely despise how I can't seem to make a good large-scale-esque battle. Anyone got any ideas?

Re: Large-scale battles
A little of both. only 3 characters on screen in a story teller at once is a joke for Large battles, and in the actual battles, you can only have 4 party members and 4 enemies.

Re: Large-scale battles
Then the only way really to have more than 3 or 4 people on screen at once is to actually have the NPCs on the field or whatever with you standing there. As for actually making them act out fighting...can't help you there ^^;Currently playing-
Seiken Densetsu 3, Brain Lord, Terranigma (all SNES)

Re: Large-scale battles
As far as storytellers go, you can have 'unlimited' characters in them. Did you want to have 300 people on the screen at once screaming at each other?
Well you can't do that.
As far as battles go, you can have multi-stage battles where your heroes have to fight multiple battles of 1-4 enemies one after the other. It would be like waves of soldiers coming at you in a large scale battle.Last edited by Ωbright; 05-08-2009, 03:57 PM.

Re: Large-scale battles
Wouldn't FF7's Fort Condor be a good starting place for inspiration? They did that in a game where you never had more than 3 party members and several enemies in battle at once. (Remember too that not all dialogue needs to be done in storytellers!)
I've gotta admit this is one of the rare times I completely agree with D13 as he rants about RM3's limitations. I really would have liked to be able to get 10 or 12 enemies on-screen at once in battle (just 'cuz it's freaking fun to wipe out a dozen mooks with a single spell), and I personally hate having to cycle people in and out throughout the storyteller--it kind of kills the mood of the "group" (or in D13's case the "army") being there. Even if only one character is speaking, it's nice to be able to show a bunch of characters or creatures in the background!

Re: Large-scale battles
Plus, towns can only have a total of 10 NPCs. You can fake an 11'th if you have the main character standing next to one of the NPCs if you arrange them al to be in 2 groups facing each other in a cutsnene, but that's more towards gangs than armies.
Also, having only he bad guys send wave after wave of only a handful of enemies is mentioned in the evil overlord list:
So that's out for me. (sigh)75. I will instruct my Legions of Terror to attack the hero en masse, instead of standing around waiting while members break off and attack one or two at a time.Last edited by Deeth Irteen; 05-09-2009, 05:04 PM.
