Yeah, sorry about the three new threads I've made in this forum in the last two days, but after reading this (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/puzzle/1vs100/news.html?sid=6209228&om_act=convert&om_clk=previews&tag=previews;title;1), I'm actually really pleasantly surprised with what they're trying to do with it. I've never seen the show, but if Microsoft can pull this off, it'll probably be the most innovative thing they've done with the RRoDBox since...well...since it was launched, actually.
And it's supposed to be free! Wow...a reason to turn my 360 on again besides to play Rock Band.

I think it's a good idea. Gives more incentive for gold membership.
I love trivia games. Are there any other ways I can own you all in trivia that don't suck?

Meh. As if you couldn't tell already, the IDEA of videogames interests me more than the games themselves a lot of the time. Any time a company tries to do something different that's never been done before, I will support that.
And really, casual or not, this is seriously an innovative idea. Instead of passively watching a gameshow on your couch in front of your TV, you can now actively participate in the same, and become eligible to win real-world prizes in a live hosted event twice a week.
I mean, sure, there are themed game nights on the 360, where if you play, you can win something. But this is taking it a step further. I mean, the way the article describes it, it's really just like being on an actual gameshow, with hundreds or thousands of other people watching and/or participating.
I dunno. Call me a casual if you wish (I'm pretty sure that was a joke, anyway), but this seems really interesting to me if they can pull it off.

Don't want to get into the semantics of what "hardcore" means again, but to me, there are two different definitions.
First is people who call themselves "hardcore" because they play Halo, L4D, Killzone, etc, online and want to prove themselves to whatever counts as a community. My take is, most of these people are Johnny-Come-Latelies to video games.
Second is people who don't think of themselves as "hardcore," but tend to play older stuff, remakes of older stuff, or esoteric stuff that the general shooter crowd would have no interest in. I'm talking about stuff like Mega Man 9, FFTA, Katamari Damacy, etc. My take is, most of these people have been playing games for years, and are tired of the same old, same old. This, to me, is a truer definition of what "hardcore" is.
I of course fit into the latter category. That being said, a fun game is a fun game. I'm guessing there are people out there that can go from playing Halo online to a game of Hardwood Spades online just to chill out, or from Killzone online to flower for the same reason. So just because I play something like The Dark Spire on my DS (the furthest thing from a casual game), and then crank up my home theater to play Rock Band when nobody's home does not make me more of a casual than any of the above examples.
A fun game is fun, no matter how you slice it.

hardcore gamer is someone who plays a game to experience and master it.
casual gamer is someone who plays a game to pass the time. hence the focus on the word casual.
as much as i throw casual around, most of you guys i would consider "hardcore" but i like being a dick and associating hardcore with really old crap.

You don't fit into either category because those are people who play games.

I just finished entering all my games on The Backloggery, and found that I have five shy of 400. Does that make me hardcore by default?

If I had several hundred CDs but never listened to any of them, would you consider me an audiophile?
Edit:
If I had to label you, I'd say your suite of behaviors falls neatly into the category of "aficionado".

I'm a gaming enthusiast. I don't do enough actual playing or buying to be hardcore or an aficionado but I'm too interested in gaming as a whole to be a casual gamer.

This looks positively awesome (even to someone like me who normally hates video game adaptations of game shows), and I'm looking forward to being a Consiglieri when I pick up a 360.
Live shows are an awesome idea and the Extended Play even sounds pretty neat, but I wish they'd also automate 1v100 games throughout the week, even if it would be for really, really scant prizes.

PlayStation Home will get a Buzz space. I dunno what the prizes are, though.
In fact, I don't even know what the 1vs100 prizes are either.

The One wins MS points if he wins, based on how many mom members eliminated.
If the One loses, the mob wins an XBLA game and the One's points are split between all that are left.
The top three scorers in the crowd win an XBLA game.
This is almost cool enough to make me want to keep my 360.

I gave up trying to play after a few attempts. I don't think many people could play it to begin with.

I was able to join and play a few games. Worked fine and was lag-free as far as I could tell. Some of the questions were ridiculously simple and there are far too many pop culture questions, but I was able to outlast the 1. If it wasn't beta then I would of won about 200 ms points.

Hmm. They did have a cap on the number of people that could play tonight. Saturday is supposed to not have a cap, though.
http://kotaku.com/5274953/is-1-vs-100s-participation-capped-updated
Update: 1 vs. 100 live host Chris Cashman, who referred throughout the evening to the 50,000 in attendance, mentioned that the capacity limit will be removed for the Saturday show. Not sure what the hard cap was, but he seemed to acknowledge one was in place.
I played this.
It's aight.

I played with Kire. It was pretty fun but he spanked me sideways because he is good at trivia and I discovered that I am not. That is my official session report.
