Okay, so I used to have RPG maker 1, 2, and 3 (not at the same time; that would be a headache and a half) but I ended up getting rid of them for different reasons a few years ago. I came across this site and it seriously got me back into the mood to make some games! So I hopped on over to Ebay and bought RPG maker 1 (my favorite of the three console ones) and am now waiting for the dang thing to hurry up and get here! I have some game ideas I want to post , but I thought first, I'd introduce meself : )
I am in my early 20s and in college to get a degree in art. I always have the most fun creating interesting characters that aren't overly complex or boring, but memorable and unique. I tend to put more emphasis on character development than actual gameplay in my games sometimes..so feel free to alert me when I need to do some balancing.
Be warned, though; I have never been able to completely finish a game with one of the game makers...except for RPGM1, but it wasn't really finished because I ran outta space. That will probably be my number one issue when I jump back on the maker bandwagon again.
Anyway, I'm pretty friendly and mellow; kind of a lone wolf type sometimes. I look forward to hanging out at the pav~!

Welcome, lizard/dragon thing guy.
Saw your profile yesterday. Welcome, and good luck with the game-making. I own RPGM1, but don't use it. RPGM3 is my software of choice. Unfortunately, I've been majorly slacking on game-making for the past few years, and getting more wrapped up in the social side of these boards. Hopefully with the librarian thing and the fanfic contest, I'll get back into it.
Have fun here, and a word of warning...objects in mirror are closer than they appear.

Space isnt an issue anymore. We destroyed the storage restrictions just a month or two after RPG Maker 1 was released. While the software has always allowed multiple cards for scenario data, I found a way to trick it into letting you use multiple system cards as well. When RPG Maker 1 arrives, we'll be happy to help you get rid of that extremely annoying limitation.

Well, that's definately a dream come true. A lot of my game was going to be limited due to space issues, but now you are saying I can plan freely? This is gonna be funnn!

Well, the system card trick does require advance planning. each system card will end up having one area of your game on it, and a transition point that is on the current and previous card where the player would save, reset the game, swap cards, and play again. so in order to use the trick, you have to segment your game.
you'll copy the system data to the second card, and then erase everything from it that you dont need anymore. dungeons, field maps, enemies, characters, anime maker file assignments, anything you wont be needing can be deleted. (except the transfer point map). you also have to do some planning with the scenario data as well. I suggest starting on a new scenario data with every system data to keep from running into events that look for things that arent there anymore.
with some really serious planning, you can let the player move between system datas whenever they want. but this takes a lot more effort in both system data planning, and scenario data planning, as every item, character, skill and spell has to be in every single system data. if you add something to one system data, you have to add it to them all, and in the exact same position in the lists.
and of course, in the transfer point, you should make a locked door blocking progress to the next part of the game that requires a key that is obtained at the end of the first system/scenario card set, to make sure people cant just skip ahead.
I hope that makes sense.
you can also use this trick to make chapter-based games, so you dont have to release the entire game at once.
it can always be explained in more detail if needed. if you have a dex drive or a PS1 emulator (using the actual RPGM1 disc), there's a playable tutorial for the system data trick on the site (click the banner). (look, more parentheses)
the trick basically just exploits the fact that the only thing RPG Maker looks for when loading a saved progress is if the game title and creator listed in the save are the same as the game it's being loaded with. so when using multiple system datas, the only thing you have to do is make sure anything referenced in the save is present in the system data you're loading it into, and that everything it'll look for is in the same spot. it'll still load if it's not, but stuff will obviously be missing from the progress.
Bienvenidos, persona nueva.
