    A week with firefox.

I decided to force myself to see what I was apparently missing by using IE exclusively. so last sunday, I started using firefox. the week is up today, I uninstalled it, and I will never, ever touch that stupid thing again.

during this week, I was constantly frustrated by the browser. youtube videos would not play sound occasionally, but would play sound if I opened the video in IE or my PS3. the Zeta Gundam OP I posted in the youtube goldmine topic is how I found this out. it will not play any audio for me when using firefox. and the video comes to a complete stop 10 seconds in. if I move the slider ahead manually, it will play for 10 more seconds and stop.

other online videos would stutter constantly, and load very, very slow.

I get "page not found" errors a lot, and have to refresh the page, which will magically make the page found. I have never, ever encountered this in IE.

would rarely keep me logged in anywhere. if I had an option set to keep me logged in, it would just put my username and password in the field, and I'd have to manually login from there every time.

when an image failed to load, it wouldnt let me right click where the image was supposed to appear to get the URL, so I could manually copy and paste it in case direct linking was disabled.

the "new tab" option in the right click menu RARELY worked. I would have to click on it several times for it to actually open a new tab.

    just terrible.

I'm sure I could fix these problems playing around with options, or downloading addons, but you shouldnt have to do that. it should just ****ing work.

So. this is why I use IE. because I want software that does what I expect it to, when I expect it to.

Web design would also be easier if Firefox/Netscape would just go away.

That's really strange, I use firefox exclusively and I have none of those issues. In fact, it seems to run perfectly for me. My experiences with IE have been pretty much the opposite, all kinds of weird bugs and glitches. Maybe this is because I'm on a Mac and your on Windows (I pressume)?

Either way, at least something works for you.

The only problem I have with Firefox is that when a picture doesn't load properly, 'view image' doesn't reload it within the same page, but opens a new tab to do so.

Other than that, I've never had any of those problems with firefox. I will never, EVER use IE again, especially with plugins like 'AD-BLOCKER' and 'download helper' available to firefox users. IE can kiss my ass.

Yeah, pretty much everything you stated as an issue in FF is nonexistant to me, Valk. That sucks that it worked so poorly for you.

I've been logged into the Pav for over a year with FF.

None of those happen to me, and the autologin thing is something you can get with Greasemonkey apps. Maybe it's your system~~~

I've been using Firefox for a long time.

The problem I have is that it doesn't play YTMNDs that well. But then YTMNDs never do play very well on Macs.

As far as the opening a link in a new tab, I just hover over the link and click down on the mouse-wheel, it does the same thing.

Yeah, don't know what to tell you. Works just fine for me, like everyone else here.

                Except the random crashes.

                  Re: A week with firefox.

It's because he didn't take the time to proporly configure his Firefox so that he could set it up to fail and thus he could go back to Internet Explorer with a clear concious.

I use Firefox because Internet Explorer was giving me constant pop-ups. Literally every time I opened up a new page I would win a wii. Since I switched I only get a pop up when I go to Sports Illustrated's website, and I'm pretty sure that's just cause I allowed pop-ups on that site for some reason long ago.

I can't really fault Valk for is circular logic against firefox. I'm the same way with Macs. I don't want to change over because they don't utilize the right-click and you have to hit that stupid curvy pound sign key. And even though they now make mac mice that you can right click with I still won't do it. Heck they even run windows. The cost also factors in there but I'm used to working on a PC and I don't want to have to learn a new operating system no matter how many hippies assure me it's easy to pick up.

The reason Firefox needs alot of customization is because everything is designed primarily for Internet Explorer. You can say that web design would be easier if everyone used Internet Explorer but the same thing would be true if everyone used Firefox. But then hackers and spammers would focus on Firefox and it'd be just as bad as IE is now so I'd be using Internet Explorer and Valk would make a topic about not giving it a fair chance.

But Firefox works fine for me. The only problem I have is the occasional crash when I have a rideculous amount of tabs open but it saves all my tabs when it crashes anyways so five seconds later everythings back up. I also can't get ABC.com's tv viewer to work but I tried it with IE and it froze in the same spot as Firefox so I probably need to update something but not Firefox itself. I don't even spend that much time downloading updates, whenever I try to view something and can't it tells me to download this and I do and it works. I had the same thing with youtube locking up and I download the lastest version of Java or Flash now it works.

Like I said I can't fault Valk but I can be disapointed in him.

That's not firefox, that's the universe telling you that you shouldn't go to ytmnd.com. If you can't be bothered to slap a sound file to an image using windows movie maker and throw it on youtube then it's not worth watching.

I configured it the best I could. not used to it's options. looked for certain settings and couldnt find them.

ive used firefox so long that i hardly remember ei. i really enjoy the customization that firefox has. anything i need in a browser i can do with this. ei was spaming me to death with adds and the constant security issues was enough for me. ei has changed a ton of stuff to make it closer to firefox but i still wont go back.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

I made the switch over to firefox a long time ago because IE kept crashing on me all the time.

Obviously Firefox has it's problems with certain features of other sites, but for the most part it's been ok.

I love it when somthing doesn't work in Firefox people around me always have to make some excuse like it's the website's problem (although to be fair usually it is). But when a website doesn't work and they are using IE, suddenly "IE SUCKS LOOK AT THIS MESS OLOL!!!!11!". Even if it doesn't work in Firefox either.

I don't hate the product nearly as much as I hate the fanboys.

I run Firefox on my XP and have never had any problems with it, in fact it runs 10 times better than IE... I have the exact opposite experience as Valk.
