Dead or Alive: The Motion Picture

TOKYO--Tecmo today announced that a movie based on its Dead or Alive fighting game series is in the works and has begun filming. The movie is being directed by Hong Kong action film director Cory Yuen, who also helmed The Transporter and Romeo Must Die. Producing the movie will be Jeremy Bolt, who's no stranger to game-based movies with producing credits on Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse. The movie's script was cowritten by J.F. Lawton (Under Siege, Pretty Woman), Adam and Seth Gross (the upcoming Devour), and German screenwriter Granz Henman (Harte Jungs).

Dead or Alive has a budget of $30 million from Constantin Film, a major movie studio and distributor in Germany. It is currently filming on location at Yuzi Paradise and Hengdian World Studios in China. From there it will move on to Hong Kong, where it will wrap.

Tecmo also unveiled the movie's cast, which features several up-and-coming thespians. Taking the role of series heroine Kasumi will be the daughter of Benihana Steakhouse mogul (Rocky Aoki), Devon Aoki. Devon's previous credits include Suki in 2 Fast 2 Furious and Miho in Sin City. Action movie star Kane Kosugi, who recently appeared in Godzilla: Final Wars, will take the role of Ryu Hayabusa. Gamers may also recognize Kosugi as the voice behind Ryu in the animated Street Fighter Alpha.

Other confirmed cast members include Natassia Malthe (Electra) as Ayane, Jaime Pressly (Not Another Teen Movie) as Tina, Sarah Carter (Final Destination 2) as Helena, Australian pop star and actress Holly Valance (National Lampoon's Pledge This) as Christie, professional wrestler Kevin Nash as Bass, and Brian J. White, who's also appearing in the upcoming film adaptation of Tekken, as Zack.
I hope it's as ridiculous as the game but...
Dough-faced Devon Aoki as Kasumi?!!!?! BLEEEEEGGHH.

I bet $50 the movie will be better than the games.

Reminds me of the mortal kombat movie... that's bad.

Aw, the first MK movie was fun. Wasn't its soundtrack the best-selling CD for... a long... time...??

However, the second one was more embarrassing than My Little Pony.

It was fun, but also incredibly stupid. I saw it in the theater one day when I was skipping high school and obviously had nothing better to do. Of all the crappy movies my friend and I sat through that day, it was probably the least annoying. Still not much going for it, really.

I saw part of the second one and wanted to run.

I loved the original MK movie. Like when Kano is all "Shang Tsung isn't so GREAT."

And then Goro goes "YES HE IS" and spills Kano's wine!!!

Kevin Nash makes the most sense of any of the cast.

Sonia's KMFDM-backed fight scene is the only thing that really sticks out in my mind. It's much better than most live-action fighting game movies...

                      Yeah, Juke Joint Jezabel!!!

Hmm...isn't it about time for the MK movie's 10th anniversary topic? We gave the Street Fighter movie one.

I have never really liked the DoA series. Too much focus was on the girls and their breasts rather than fine tuning its simple cheap ass gameplay. The movie should focus more on being an actual martial arts film.

The 1st MK movie was cheezy, but I still liked it because the creators actually had a hand in the making of it. Where as the 2nd movie had no involvement from them what so ever, and, well, ya saw how bad that one was.

Boyo, its gameplay is great, the breasts are just icing. It's like rock-paper-scissors in beautiful fighting game form.

And it's one of the few, few, few fighting games I'm pretty decent at.

Yeah, few games allow you to play with your member.

Seriously, try looking past the cheesecake with an open mind or something.

Then again, I've only tried the earlier incarnations, soooo.... bye. *zoom*

                              Soul Calibur is infinitely better.
