okay, so there's a mysterious new illness wiping out humanity. a cure has just been discovered, but it's inside your body. in order to extract the cure from you, scientists will have to basically destroy your entire body. it'll kill you, but it'll save all of mankind.

More like realistic. If faced with the death of the entire human race, I doubt many scientists would hesitate to sacrifice a single human being in order to save it.

Oh, they would give the person the choice, or at least the illusion of choice. If that person chose wrong, they would be corrected.

They wouldn't even allow that probably, maybe a weekend if you're lucky, in a months time millions could be dead. But most likely they would spin it in a way to the general public that you chose to die, no one wants blood on their hands, even if its the honorable thing to do.

Assuming it was actually wiping out humanity (rather than wiping out all of seven people like the bird flu "pandemic"), I'd gladly let them do what they will with me to get the cure.

There are a fair number of people that I would sacrifice myself to save, so something like this would be a gimme.
