    Demigod for 35 bucks

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832796003

    also on amazon.com

Brand New game for fairly cheap.

I'm on the fence about this. On one hand DotA can be quite fun in Warcraft 3. However I already own WC3 so I don't know if I would want to play a DOTA with pretty graphics and more balanced characters.

first review on newegg says the online sucks, and that's the only reason to play Dota, sooooooooo

The online sucked the first few days because non-registered (i.e. pirates) outnumbered registered people by almost 3x. Basically, pirates overloaded the servers and the developers, like Stardock, believe in offering quality games at decent prices instead of half-assed products with tons of defenses attached to them.

"You may install this game three times before buying a new copy have a nice day!"

I'm tempted to just download it from the main website for the extra 5 bucks.

For Stardock or for these guys?

Stardock games are high sellers. Demigod is a pretty generic game and I don't even play defense of the whatever.

Why'd you bring up Stardock then?

I don't get what you're saying? This was developed by Stardock, Stardock doesn't like piracy defenses, and their servers were overloaded by pirates.

              Right?

Oh, your sarcasm was directed towards their servers, not their sales.

The problem was with the server infrastructure (Stardock publishes the game and their rule with publishing is no intrusive DRM). The thing is, the servers weren't ready to handle players yet but Gamestop broke street date by a whole week and the game, like all PC games, was cracked in the first 24 hours. Stardock didn't activate their preorders until a week later, meaning that most of the people who bought the game online had to wait (or pirate) or purchase the game from gamestop. Once the server leak was found, they fixed it immediately.

Doesn't help the fact that it's a pretty shallow and boring game but I'm sure the number of pirates for all of Stardock's games are high. The only reason we actually know the numbers in this case is because the CEO released them and used it as an excuse for the server malfunction.

I think so many people pirated it BECAUSE they made such a big deal about not needing anti piracy stuff on their discs. If they didnt say anything, it wouldnt have been nearly as bad.

Every game gets pirated. Its inevitable. Its going to happen at some point. But when you walk go around all LOL WE DONT NEED ANTIPIRACY SOFTWARE BE BELEIVE IN THE GAMES its just BEGGING people to pirate it.

But I hear it wasnt even that great a game anyway, so I dunno.

Stardock's been bragging about this for 10 years and they were one of the first (before Steam) companies to distribute their products through digital distribution. The only reason the community is "shocked" by these numbers is because this is one of the few (first?) times a known company actually released legit info on pirates.

I don't know if it's to save face or some kind of unwritten rule, but companies never disclose information like this.

EDIT: Imagine if Microsoft came out and said how many people have had their accounts locked for modding their 'boxes. I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the hundreds of thousands.

So I got the digital copy a few eeeks back. as an "apology" for the crummy online at the start they gave a coupon for 50% off a second copy of the game.

I'm not going to use it, and I am sure nobody I know personally is going to use it so I go to pavvies. If anyone is interested in buying the game, I'll send you the 50% off coupon code. It expires the 29th, so I might as well help somone out.
